Hello all,

I hope this is helpful for all those who are about to sponsor a spouse or currently in the middle of an application! I applied last year to sponsor my spouse whilst we were living in the UK. After 6 gruelling months of anxiety and anguish, we received news that an interview was required for my husband. We applied late March 2004 and received news in October 2005 about the interview. My husband's interview was in November 2005. With the grace of Almighty, my husband's interview was successful and granted an entry visa to Canada.

Despite the good news, I do have one small query regarding my husband's passport and wonder if anyone has any advice or suggestions. His visa grants him entry into Canada 08/02/2005 and his passport expires 16/02/2005. Does anyone know if it would be a problem for him to enter Canada in this situation? We are due to leave the UK on 28/01/2005. Would he need to renew his old passport (of Pakistani origin) or apply for a new one?

Thanks for you assistance in advance and if anyone would like to ask me any questions about our application process, please feel free to ask. Some words of advise that I would give is:
1) always be honest in your application (never hide any details)
2) make sure all your documents are in check (valid) and make sure you submit all that is required
3) always advise the Immigration office of any changes in address or status as it makes repsonse a lot easier and saves time!
4) think positive and keep utmost faith in God!

I wish success for all that are in the process of applying and for those that have! God bless all!

Thanks,

Sabrina

Did you try to contact Canadian Consulate in UK regarding this? Why don't your husband apply for his passport renewal?

All your dates are in the past (2005) which I think is a typo from your side and assume the year is 2006.

Hi Sabrina

Congratulations! I'm currently in th process of sponsoring my husband who lives in Pakistan. I really need as much advice as possible. Did you do the application on your own or did you solicit the aid of immigration consultants or lawyers? Is there any way I might be able to get in touch with you?

Marina

sabrina,
your husbands passport needs to have minimum of six month validity or more or he will not be allowed to board his connecting flight to canada by immigration authorities at the transfer point either london/paris or any other.Remember he is only on a entry visa, the visa officer at toronto or vancouver may deny him entry into the country. There is no such thing as a 3 month visa. the minimum is six months. So please make sure your travel document has minimum valdity of six to eight months. the airlines will not issue a aticket for travel, since they verify the passpoert and visa before they process the ticket. You will need to purchase a return ticket and may have to produce a itnerary at immigration.
