The Hague, Oct 22 (IANS) Dennis Bergkamp and Wim Jonk have signed indefinite contracts with leading Dutch football club Ajax. The former internationals form the technical heart of the squad along with head coach Frank de Boer. Bergkamp, 42, and Jonk, 45, had already started in their new positions a few months ago, despite the absence of a final agreement, reports Xinhua. Bergkamp is the assistant of first team coach Frank de Boer and also technique coach while Jonk serves as head of youth development and as technique coach as well. 'I must admit that my contract was not a priority,' explained Bergkamp on the Ajax website. 'It was especially important for Wim and me that we would have a good coaching staff at the start of this season, and especially in the areas of individual coaching of young players.' The appointment of Bergkamp and Jonk is the result of an initiative by the club's legend Johan Cruijff to get more former players in important positions within the club. The criticism by Cruijff, among others things, was that the famous Ajax youth academy in recent years had produced too little top players. He himself is now a member of the supervisory board.
