Hyundai Canada recently introduced the unique and aggressively-styled Veloster three-door coupe and
won the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) award for Best New Sports/Performance
Car under $50,000. The 2012 Veloster delivers innovation in the compact coupe segment with a unique
third door for easy rear-seat access, a standard seven-inch touch-screen display, and a new 1.6-litre
Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) four-cylinder engine mated to Hyundai’s first six-speed EcoShift Dual
Clutch Transmission (DCT).
MODERN AND AGGRESSIVE STYLING
Veloster is styled in the most aggressive adaptation of Hyundai’s “Fluidic Sculpture” design language
yet. The front end features Hyundai’s signature hexagonal grille and LED position lights along with hood
scoop detailing. A chrome grille surround, piano black highlights, fog lights, and a massive panoramic
sunroof are available.
THE THIRD DOOR
Veloster combines the style of a coupe with the functionality of a hatchback, all the while incorporating
an additional passenger-side door. Hyundai’s fresh take on the idea includes a conventionally hinged
door on the passenger side of the Veloster, providing safe and easy access to the surprisingly spacious
rear seats. In order to maintain the classic coupe style, the passenger-side rear door handle is cleverly
hidden in the C-pillar.
GAMMA 1.6-LITRE GDI ENGINE
The all-new Gamma 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine is the smallest Hyundai engine to utilize Gasoline
Direct Injection (GDI). GDI technology allows for much greater control over fuel injection than traditional
multi-port systems, helping deliver highway fuel economy of 4.9 L/100 km, more power, and lower
emissions. The Gamma 1.6-litre engine delivers a peak output of 138 horsepower and 123 lb-ft of
torque.
NEW SIX-SPEED ECOSHIFT DUAL-CLUTCH TRANSMISSION
Hyundai’s commitment to making the Gamma engine extremely fuel efficient continues by pairing it
with a standard six-speed manual transmission or an all-new six-speed EcoShift Dual Clutch Transmission
(DCT) developed by Hyundai. Hyundai’s new EcoShift DCT blends the benefits of a manual transmission
with those of a traditional automatic. The result is the low fuel consumption and sporty driving feel of a
manual paired with the comfort and smooth shift quality of an automatic.
ADVANCED STANDARD SAFETY TECHNOLOGIES
Veloster is equipped with an exceptional level of standard safety features for the compact coupe
segment. A Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) system help the driver maintain control of the vehicle
in slippery conditions or during fast cornering. Veloster features six airbags including dual front,
seat-mounted front-impact, and side curtains. A state-of-the-art four-wheel disc braking package
provides confident stopping ability. The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) features Electronic Brake-force
Distribution and Brake Assist
CONNECTIVITY AND MODERN TECHNOLOGY
As a reflection of consumers’ new desires in the digital age, Veloster comes standard with a
multifunction seven-inch touch-screen display. A 196-watt AM/FM/XM/CD/MP3 audio system with
six speakers and iPod®/USB/AUX connectivity and a Bluetooth® hands-free phone system with voice
recognition, address book download, and audio streaming are standard. The vehicle also comes
standard with an integrated rear-view camera.
