TORONTO: The South Asian community in Greater Toronto Area (GTA) has been increasing at a fast pace. Latest Census data shows that India surpassed China as the number one source country of immigrants settling in GTA and the trend is likely to continue in future.
Statistically, about 77,800 newcomers from India, 17.4% of all newcomers, settled in the Toronto metropolitan area in 2006. The new arrivals had a major impact on the metropolitan area's workforce with an estimated 253,600, just over one-half (56.6%), were in the prime working years i.e. aged 25 to 54.
Moreover, for the past some time, there were reports that the South Asians have been finding it difficult to present themselves in the Canadian market, despite the fact that they were well-qualified and talented. The new immigrants were even facing problems in customizing their resume as per the Canadian requirements and experience, which resulted in jeopardizing their career advancement.
In view of the above statistics, CanIndia News took this initiate to organize first-ever one-day Rogers South Asian Job Fair, the largest public recruitment event in the GTA where job-seekers will find abundant job opportunities besides related information like recognition of educational testimonials, Canadian experience and job-searching tools etc., says Jaswinder Marjara, President and CEO of CanIndia News.
At this job fair, Marjara states “the job seekers will have direct access to employers, all-important seminars, educational and training facilities, career services besides other tools which would prove to be a definite help in career advancement.”
He said an advice section at the Job Fair would be maintained by recruitment professionals where the job searchers could get help to polish their CVs besides current job trends, employment tools and tips to prepare for the interviews.
“Rogers South Asian Job Fair will prove to be unique resource to meet qualified candidates in just one day, mainly because the visitors at the fair would be experienced and attracted by the presence of leading employers”, adds Marjara.
Rogers South Asian Job Fair will turn out to be a win-win situation for the job searchers as well as the employers. “If the event would broaden the competitive edge and improve the image, prestige and credibility of a company, the professional job-seekers in different fields would also get an opportunity to prove themselves and get direct recruitment at this job fair”, the President and & CEO concludes.
