North Korea holds military parade

Pyongyang, April 15 (IANS) North Korea Sunday held a military parade here to celebrate the 100th birth anniversary of the country's founder Kim Il-sung.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un lauded the contribution of his grandfather for the country's development. He died in 1994.

Noting that the country is facing a "momentous opportunity", Kim Jong-un called upon the nation to stick to the path followed by his predecessors, the China Daily reported.

Tens of thousands of people attended the ceremony at Kim Il-sung Square here. It was one of the many activities planned to celebrate Kim Il-sung's 100th birth anniversary.

Kim Jong-un recently became the first secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), as well as chairman of WPK's Central Military Commission. He was also appointed as the first chairman of the National Defence Commission.
