Well, have realistic expectation and you would be happy and content.Initially things might look difficult ,give your self & your family some time.Upgrade where necessary,Stick to one feild of experience.
What would be most missed could be Kolkatar adda (Gariahater)and chicken ,egg roll, offcouse now you get to have paneer roll too.I miss them even today.
Best of luck,

I am not sure whether you guys are in IT ....if you are IT guys I am just wondering why you are planning to move to Canada?
IT sector is booming in Calcutta ..particularly after Buddhadev Bhattachryaa became CM ...real estate value has become more than double ove last 2-3 years time..so Calcutta is now really signing .
Five years back situation was not at all good and that's one of the reason why I decided to settle down in Canada ...still I miss puchka(near victoria memorial,Alipur Zoo),Egg /Chicken Role(Park Street),Golbarir Kasa Mangsa
Though I settled very well in Canada still if I would have start thinking immigrating to Canada now may be I opted for sticking to Calcutta ...salary/purchsing power/quality of life has changed a lot over last 3-4 years.

Hi all !
Thanks for responding... Definitly, we are gonna miss the egg rolls and phuchkas of the world, and not to speak of the para addas and evenings that one could have spent beside the river side scoop or the lake...i can understand your nostalgic feelings.
There are lot of things that one would miss apart from these... Parents and families for instance.
Calcutta is catching up... and will catch up soon, but the growth may be uncertain, lobsided, and superficial. The political backbone is unstable, fiscal deficit is widening, a debt trap is imminent if the turnaround time is not what is predicted. Corruption is at large, and scams surface when things come under scanner. People are still myopic, and interested in short term gains.
And our Honourable CM... he is really doing a lot for west bengal but please do mind his age too.
Nonetheless, i am still interested to see myself in the same platform that i am in here right now, after 3-4 years on toiling in canada? Isn't the trade off justified?
Well, i am from the marketing background, working with a reputed telecom company, hope that i do have a large scope to prove my abilities in canada. In india, mktg by and large is unstructured, haphazard and driven more by instincts and less by understanding the need - with due respects to Indian mktg gurus, i am forced to arrive at this conclusion.
I would like to understand the prospects of a mktg person in canada, and how would one prepare himself in 3 yrs ( as i am yet to apply ) to face the eventuality after the immigration, to minimise the odd jobs timespan that one has inevitably gotto go thru.
Can anyone advise with suggestive course of action.
regards
aditya
Hi bappa291
You were scheduled to have a meeting in end of Jan 2006, How did it go?
Are there any more unresolved issues?
There seems to be silence from your end.
Would be glad to reply if you and your group have any more clarifications on immigration to canada.

Hi my all would be canadian friend and Lali. Thanks to remind me to report the happenings of the "Canadian Club" meeting. Many applicant went to that meeting. For obvious reason I can not name them. But they are from different shpere of work.Only the similarity is that we all want to go to Canada. It was 29 th Dec 2005 ,we gathered at a resort , situated 20Km away from Kolkata, with our family.Total number of participats were around 30(Incl family).
We discussed lot of issues.e.g.
1) What would be the attitude of consevative Govt towards the Newcommer, and new applicants?
2)Importance of CAIPS note
3)Nature of odd job and strategies to get a respectable(?) job.
4)Calgary as a potentiel place to relocate.
5)How to get admission in canadian university or recognised institution?
6) Importance of WES assesment?
One of our participant already got the Landing paper.Probably he will be moving in April. We shared our information with him,and handed over all the phone numbers of our friends and relatives, who resides in Toronto.
One of our participants stayed in Canada for one and half month and got admission in Windsor University. He shared very useful information with us.Like Bus fare, price of food,Housing rent ,University education etc.He might again visit Canada soon.
We shall be highly obiliged if you or any CD member can advise us about different topics specially on job related issues.

Special thanks to Bappa and Aditya for putting all the potential issues in the forum and also for arranging get together to discuss upfront.
