Why should Mahatma Gandhi form a nexus with Nehru? On Aug 15, 1947,he was in Naokhali. He had advised for disbanding the Congress. But the Congressmen would have none of that. Gandhiji quietly retreated inland for serving the people and attended the burning problem of Hindu-Muslim riots. At best he was tolerated. There were repeated Intelligence information that plots were being hatched to assassinate him (including on the "successful" one). But he was not afraid. In fact he had chalked out elaborate plans to start a March in mid 1948, like that of Dandi, to bring the people of India and Pakistan together. Had he been alive he would have definitely succeeded.
Gandhiji saw through the game plan of dividing India. If India was what it was during the days of Akbar or Shahjahan, we will definitely be a super power by now. All our resources are being on wasted on military build up against each other (India and Pak). He might have had a soft corner for Muslims because prior to the British, they performed the role of that of Kshatriyas of vedic times.

Probably for the same reasons that Netaji "supported Hitler" ?
Couldn't get the reasoning behind your last sentence, though!
In today’s India, Hindus constitute over 80% population. 500 years ago they must have been over 95%. Still the Hindus had abdicated the role Kshatriyas in fighting for and upholding Dharma in our society. The Muslims filled the void. Otherwise their invasion would not have been successful.
