I dont think there is any doubt{EDIT: There always can be doubt, as with any other historical figure :) } as to his existence...same as that of Mohammed 600(approx) yrs later or Gautama Buddha approx 600 yrs earlier. That he was born 300 years after Alexander the great may give more perspective as to the era of Jesus's existence.

I should rephrase. The focus of my sentence wasn't Christ's existence, it was about "proof" of existence. Yes, Jesus of Nazareth probably did exist, although the "miracles" could very well be the church at work (just like it is in all other religions).

To date, there has been no artifact belonging to or related directly to him that has ever been found (or has it?). Over the last couple of years, there was a big story about an Israeli art dealer who found his tomb or brother's tomb (pardon my memory here), but that turned out to be a hoax. So my point was that with no existing artifact to link back to, I would doubt with all my doubt any story that revealed some tomb in Kashmir purported to be Jesus's. Sounds more like the Taj Mahal being a Hindu temple story, i.e. Hogwash.

Lastly, let's stretch our imagination (because everything is possible) and say that this story has some merit. Would this not conflict with what the Bible says?

Thats what I meant in my last para. The man and the myth(?). He was probably a reformer or orater(maybe even a healer) who walked the place. However, if people were ready to suffer and die for him after less than 50 yrs of his death(crucifixion was the common device of death for Christians...as a warning to others who joined the cult)...its very likely that he did exist atleast as a man. Ofcourse, he could also have been the 'son of god'...its our choice as to what we need to pick.

The same as the Kurukshetra war probably being a small family/tribal conflict built into a battle of Mythic proportions, besides inspiring the Gita.

All this however does not take away from the essence of either religion or the ideas expoused within(BL this sentence is not directed to you :) )

The same can be said about any historical figure including Alexander the Great. The evidence of existence of 'Buddha' are also curcumstancial rather than prayer beads with Buddhas fingerprints or a sword with Alexanders DNA sample. Any direct link is as 'conclusive ' as the 'Shroud of turin'...I guess we all know the controversy surrounding the same.

Yes. Every religion needs its myths and miracles ie.direct links to the 'divine'.

Refer to first para of this post :p

The Hindu woman from Durban, South Africa means serious business when she says she is Jesus Christ, reborn in the New Millennium.

Miracles in the name of Jesus ( Benny Hinn etc ) are really to be doubted.. I once met a guy by chance in Chennai and he gave me this detail.. He was a Hindu and because of his poverty coverted to christianity as that was a deal to get a cleaner's job in the church. This created a rift in the family and his wife left him taking away the kids and she continued to be a Hindu.. The tough part happened when he was asked to find people for money who will be asked to pretend as if they were healed by miracles ..This guy was so fed up of his life that he joined DK ( a Psuedo-aethist party who secretly pray almost all the gods in the world !!!) .Later he found that nobody is genuine and now talks against everything in this world. It was so interesting talking to him..

BTW, One of Benny Hinn's healed patients died because she was on Diabetes medication for 15 years and she was told that she was healed of that disease and neddn't take any more medication.. This has become a issue in Bangalore last year..

Funny world!!!!!!!

Please understand that i am not probagating anything but just telling as to how i understand it.
There was a report that some 40,000 people were healed of various aliments in Benny Hinn's bangalore conventions. If he was false, atleast some relatives/ friends of the the dozens of people healed on the stage in front of TV camera's would have brought to the press that the healings were not genuine. i am speaking with just common sense in my head.
I agree that there are a few bad eggs out there who want to gain popularity by false healings. Time/history has showed us how these people are identified by the press and their ministry being ended/ curtailed.
I watch Benny Hinn's program everyday. On TV they show 8-15 people healed in every service (in a 30 min. program). I expect that if the healing was false, we would have their relatives/ friends telling that the miracles were false. (and this in USA where journalism is at its best)
This would apply to other evangelistic healers too.
In Trichy, there was a guy (name starts as param... and he looked like senthil) who could bring sivalingams from his mouth and it was touted that he was a great miracle man. He had an Ashram in Trichy and soon it was found that he was a fake and he was jailed. But people i have seen like Dinakaran, Benny Hinn etc.. have been around for a very long time.
I leave it to the CD members to decide for themselves.

BTW, Paul Thinakaran is a multi-millionere and owns a college which doesn't allow people without Lakhs in Donation..

To me, anything involving money is business and every religion in this modern world is a big corporation.. I don't doubt the fundamentals though !!!!
