The general belief is that Toronto is the best place to migrate to, from the job-prospects point-of-view. However, I personally feel that other cities like Ottawa, Montreal, Vancouver should also be good destinations. Can any one please advise, as to how one should choose his/her destination? Maybe certain kinds of jobs are in demand in a particular city, and the same may not hold good for other towns/provinces! I am assuming that other factors like quality of life, education, cost of living should be more-or-less the same in all major cities.
Take weather into account as well. Citys like Ottawa, Montreal, Calagry will have much colder Winters then Toronto. Vancouver/Victoria has the most temperate climate
You can go through the sites like
http://jobbank.gc.ca/
and workopolis.ca (others job sites too, try google.ca) to see which province has more demand for the profession you are in.

Unless you already have a network here and/OR have a job offer in hand OR are fluent in French...Montreal/Quebec could be a tough place for newcomers to find employment in. Most (almost all) desi's I know have had job offers before coming to Montreal including your's truly.

I think that besides the job market factor, the other big draw to Toronto is the huge desi population already here. You'll have a hard time feeling out of place pretty much anywhere in the GTA. There are many areas where you can hardly feel you're out of India. Also a lot of people know someone who knows someone who lives somewhere in GTA.
This may be the re-assurrance a lot of people look for faced with the prospect of moving to a totally new country.
Job-wise though, Toronto may not be the best place to move, although that is the general impression. Agreed, the market is huge but so is the competition.
Alberta has been one of the fastest growing provices economically for the past few years and it may be a better choice for newcomers.

Are you there?
Hi BlueLobster,
Thanks for your regular update and guidance to all. I wish to educate myself about some conceptions about job scene in Canada thru' this thread.
What is the job scene for Canadian MBA graduates (Indians)? Iam applying for Fall 2004. The general feedback given to me is that the jobs are heavily concentrated on the east (Toronto) and not on West (Vancouver). UBC is among my top choices but this notion about NO JOBS bothers me. Does NO JOBS mean that there are NO (expected) jobs or NO JOBS AT ALL!
As an international student/foreigner I accept that I may not get the best job and salary of my choice right at the start. But NO JOBS makes me feel insecure. Please update me on my wrong/incomplete information.
Thanks in advance.
