Hi everyone,

Since last six months i m canada.. had applied from buffalo,ny . it took 4.5 years to clear the file and to cross the border. four families from our friend circle have relocated.. we r happy in canada.

It is better to live peacefully in canada then living under pressure of temporary visa in USA

If any one needs help about the immigration procedure can ask us.

I agree with you. There are lot of people who moved here from US that they can not take more crap of H1 visa.

Welcome to Canada.

I would like to ask something here though this has been discussed and debated before. US has got more jobs , better salary and a supposedly better life style comparing one to one .

What comes as a drawback is a temporary H1 Visa which impends conversion to a GC after 4-5 years proceeding which US is a better alternative to Canada .

We find a lot of Canadian citizens working in US on a TN Visa . Some of these people prefer to apply through an H1 and switch their citizenship for a GC after requisite time .

Questions that come to my mind and on which I seek advice is :

1. What are the current timelines of GC approval and what s the success percentage ?
2. What are the important factors for India born people which determine GC approval of H1 ?
3. Do TN Visa holder get paid less and how much time is a TN Visa issued for?

I have a feeling that with so much outsourcing to India the demand for H1 Visas will go down and they would be more easily available and so would be the GC . Right or wrong ?

1. If you get Canadian citizenship still can not help in US green card. They take by birth citizenship.
2. 4-5 yrs looks nice to get green card. Lot of people gets in that time. But with some people it did not work out. Can be any reason: changed employer, got fired, body shopper shop got closed, got rejected, did not patch up with body shopper, change in immigration laws, got lot of quires in your case, .... a long list.

3. US is nicer for some type of skills. Better lifestyle, more money, cheaper stuff. Canada can be better too for lot of people.

One more factor that has changed in Canada's favour is that loonie is worth a lot more.... it is now worth 88 cents USD as opposed to 62 cents USD in 2003; thereby reducing the wage disparity.

Also, the expected working hours are longer in US than in Canada....

My favourite crib with Canada: cuss:
much poorer shopping avenues/experience & "Canadian experience" mentality. Why can't they say "interpersonal/socio-cultural/linguistic/job-relevant" skills - since that is pretty much what they mean by Canadian experience.

Thanks for your inputs . I can see why ppl have carying timelines for the GC . But I have a feeling that since takers to US esp from India might be going down things will iron out sooner or later .

My 2 points still remain unanswered -

2. What are the important factors for India born people which determine GC approval of H1 ?
3. Do TN Visa holder get paid less and how much time is a TN Visa issued for?

hope some veterans can share their thoughts on these ..... calling Yellow Knife and the ilk......

TN visa is issued for 1 year and again need to apply after one year. It is also employer base visa.

India and Chinese have big I485(AOS) backlog. That may take years to get clear or to reach when you are qualified to file your AOS.
