Hi all,
Along with our Passports and COPR, we also recieved a paper describing Permanent Residency requirements. The following is a word-word quote from the same:
"Until You obtain Canadian Citizenship, your permanent residence status may be revoked if you are outside Canada for more than 730 days within 5 years, except in certain circumstances"
730 days is Two years but it was my understanding that one may stay out of Canada for a 3 year period every 5 years??? Is this a typo or what
Thx

I don't see any confusion here.
You can stay out for Canada for 3 years in the *first* 5 years, and after that - only 3 years in the previous 5 year period counting from the current date.
It is not 3 years out of *every* 5 years.

I had one embassy make corrections to their documents that they issue to new immigrants. It incorrectly said two years "outside" Canada.
It is proof of the utter confusion at CIC. God knows what goes on sometimes at those embassies.
