We are expecting our baby in Dec 08 and I plan to send my wife to Canada for delivary.
We have our PR cards but no medicla cards.
Can someone guide me as to how to go ahead .

Where in Canada she is travelling to?
If she is coming to Ontario, there is a 3 month waiting period for her to get OHIP coverage. So she should come here no later than Aug, 08 and apply for OHIP card. In some of the other provinces, you are covered from day one.

If you establish your residence in Saskatchewan or Alberta, you are covered from day one - there is no waiting period.

I would also like to give u little info abt how the doctors work here. We cannot go directly to a gynac as they fall under the specialist category u will have to go to a walk in clinic first (its a clinic where a group of doctors practice) & then u meet any available doctor who is on call & then u will be directed to a gynac so u will need a little time to get that done also. And some clinics do not accept new patients its a wierd procedure which is followed here. So u should have enough time to meet the right doctor as it takes a little time. All the best. I am not sure if this info will help u but thought u should have a ides of this as I was unaware of this process.

Yes, you can go to the gynaec directly if you call them ahead of time to let them know that you are expecting and then request to accept you as a patient. If they accept you, then you can go to them directly - without going to the walk-in clinic first.

We landed here when my wife was 7 months pregnant. It was tough to get a gyno. Every gyno who accept new patients declined to accept her 'this late in pregnancy'. Finally went to a walk in clinic. The doc referred her to a group practise and finally got the gyno just a week before delivery. We had just two visits with the gyno.
What the walkin doc told us is, there is no way to accelerate the waiting time for the gyno, and if the delivery happens before that, just go to the Emergency and they must accept you.
$ part is another thing - Since we are in GTA, 90 day waiting period applied. Regular way, expect a bill of 3-5K. If one need to go to Emergency, I will expect a higher damage. (Anyways, we were lucky since our daughter decided to come out 2 days after the OHIP coverage started!)
If you are coming here just for delivery, Alberta etc. may be a better choice since there is health insurance coverage from day 1.
One interesting fact I noticed with the walkin doc is, some of them will milk you to the maximum. One visit we were told she has to take 3 tests, but the lab nurse is not available then, so need to come back again (read another appointment and another fee). Next visit blood etc. was drawn and were informed after 2 days that the results have come, make an appointment to discuss results. During the appointment (read another fee), results of one test was discussed - said everything was normal; the visit lasted 2-3 minutes - and rest of the results haven't come yet. It took us an hour to reach home back and there was a message waiting for us from the doc's place that the other result has come, make an appointment etc. In short, we had to make 5 visits just for the tests (1 with doc, 1 for blood drawing, 3 for each result discussion - though everything was just fine). Since the doc had referred us to the gyno, we couldn't change the doc either.
Point is, it is tough to get good docs just after you arrive. Unless you know a good doc thru reference and she/he is willing to accept you as a new patient, you may end up with someone who is much more interested in your money than care. From that perspective, it might be better if you land as early as possible.
