Hi guys,

Does any one here had their police clearance obtained from India for the Immigration purpose?

Any tips on how to approach the police department in India. Should we take a pre-typed format and request them to issue the police clearance in that format? Any other useful tips from people who have obtained police clearance from India?

Would appreciate, if you could share your experience.

Thanks,

Fellow Desi

Since you have not given your location and asking police clearance from India for immigration purpose, I am presuming that you presently live somewhere in India and are a potential immigrant.

You have to go to the nearest police station and give a written application (there is no standard format and a well typed or hand written application would do. At least that's what I did 8 years ago.) to the Station Incharge requesting him that you wish to have a police clearance for the purpose of immigrating to Canada and this is required for submission to CHC. I hope this will do the needful. If something has changed in the last 7-8 years, then I would request other fellow desis to share their comments.

You have to approach Passport Office and fill the requrested form. Resquest goest to your area police station (10-15 Days). Police come personnelly to your home and take signaure.

Then they forward to Possport Office. Passport Office will courier authenticate document. Normally it is 1 to 1 1/2 month process.

Yogesh, I guess what you mentioned - it is about obtaining the police clearance while applying for the Indian passport.

I think Pramod did mention the right approach to obtain police clearance from India for the “immigration” purpose. I dont think passport office will have anything to do with the Canadian immigration police clearance.

Still, I might be wrong.

Go the nearest Regional passport Office, fill the \"Misc. services \" form (or download from indianpassport.nic.in) and apply with a fee of Rs. 300/. You can get the \"Police Clearance Certificate\" on the same or next day. carry the original passport and related documents.

It seems from the PKM's comments that one can apply at the nearest Regional Passport office for the (immigration) Police clearence even if it is NOT realted to \"applying/renewal of indian passports\".

I remeber having filled up the misc form for my police clearence when I applied for the passport (note this was not for the immigration purpose) at the Mumbai passport office.

Is there anyone \"in Canada\" who has immigrated from \"India\" and obtained his police clearence certificate (specifically for the canadian immigration purpose) by applying at the Regional Passport office - Mumbai?

Like Pramod mentioned he submited his application at the local police station for the canadian immigration police clearence certificate, which does make lot of sense. If anyone else had obtained it in any other way and had immigrated to canada, I would appreciate if you could post your comments.

Thanks guys for all your comments
