I did not try to drive any point.......it was a piece of information in continuation of msg from deepcb. I'll try to be clearer:
1)I find deepcb's post very poor in substance. You seemed to be supporting the tone of that too. It seemed to suiggest that we should learn to accept inequality and then wait until Asians to become a majority.
2)NOBODY is denying that people have fought and died for our rights here and in India(during the freedom struggle). Chinese migrants have fought for their rights and so have women/aboriginals etc etc.
3)"the landed immigrants..............who claim that they are Canadians but obviously look different........"
Considering that we are not good enough to be Canadian because we are not 'white'(as suggested in deepcb's post) is an INSULT to all those who have fought for that right. Why are we so obsessed with this black/white thing. If there are racists out there its their problem, why make it our problem?
Why should we look at the world with racist eyes?
I'm glad that you think that you are as Canadian as anybody else and are proud of it.

Here in Canada nobody had to die for their rights as far as my reference of Sikh / hindu history is concern. Canada has a legal system to put your point across with evidence and it will be viewed with open mind. Now don't ask me why legal system is not racist. Also, I won't say 100% white are racist obsessed.

I imagine you refer to Toronto, since that was where you landed when you came to Canada. As of the last census from 2001, ~45% of Toronto’s population is foreign born. ~37% of the population is visible minority. While the white population is indeed a majority, there is a large percentage of visible minorities and therefore the use of the word ‘dominant’ may not be appropriate.

1. People who run for political office won’t be ‘landed immigrants’, they will be Canadian citizens.
2. They won’t need to ‘claim to be’ Canadians. They will be Canadians and proud of it.
3. Referring to your previous para, if immigrants are to be a majority in Canada as such, that would mean that reverse immigration hasn’t happened.

It seems to me you have so many pre-conceptions about race and the impact of it on life, any of my arguments are not worth-while. Still I'll try.
I disagree whole-hearteadly to this defeatist attitude that you're putting forth as "reality". And for the life of me, I cannot understand this "Canadians of Asian origin are different people" argument. I mean, who cares? Not me. When I see a canadian born desi kid here, I don't suddenly start looking for "Indian values" in him/her. I'm content knowing whether its a good kid or not.
With this attitude there can be no change in society. I'm amazed you feel this way about the Canada of today. I have relatives who came to the U.S. in the 60s. Had they resigned themselves to your beliefs and just accepted the status quo without fighting back, I would never have been so fortunate to live in such a multi-cultural society where I have equal rights as any other race.
First of all, nobody I know will say "There's no racism in Canada". I will disassociate with someone who does. There of course is. There's lots of racism in India too. And in the U.S. And in U.K. And in australia.
And whoa...let's not even get into the racism in the middle east, shall we? Wonder why that never affects you. Here's a place where racism in embedded in the constitution (unlike any of the afore-mentioned countries).
Canadians are some of the friendliest people I've ever encountered anywhere. Maybe its beause I don't approach them with race blinders over my eyes. i.e. I don't approach Joe Schmoe as a "white person". I speak to him either as a friend or a colleague. I find that with this attitude, there's hardly any race-related awkwardness. Too often, a lot of desis who're new here try to speak to "original canadians" as if they're a holograph or something. If they say something like "Oh, I love Indian culture!", we inflate with pride like there's no tomorrow. And if they're not receptive or a bit rude, we think they're racists and they hate all indian people.
Why? This way, you're setting yourself up for racism. Try communicating with "original canadians" like they're normal average people. And they'll respond in kind. This happens eventually anyways, but when you're new, you gotta make an extra effort anyways to forget the while/black/brown factor when you're speaking to people. Simple as that.
Anyways, these are my views and with this attitude, I've never really experienced any racism in Canada. Never ever in my 4 years! When I do, I'm not going to say "This is just a fact of life!". I'll use every legal alternative to fight back. I do expect equality!
(Btw, if I go to a Taco Bell and some kid across the counter gives me some attitude, I don't call that racism. I usually just call the manager.)

Apparently many of you believe that Canada is an intolerant racist society. However, do you believe that Canadians are slowly beginning to accept people of different ethnicities or do you believe that people attitude towards them has been the same for the past decade? Do you see racism as even bigger issue in the next ten years?
