Hi -
I am in Canada on a work permit and recently got my PR visa from New Delhi. Now, in order for me to start the PR, do I have to step out of Canada and re-enter, or can I get the necessary documents stamped while in Canada (through a local CIC office)
Thanks,
AB
When you got the PR Visa they would have given specific instructions regarding landing formalities, so please read it, since you are already in Canada, go to nearest border..ex Niagara Falls Rainbow bridge, show all documents and say that you need to complete landing formalities, they will check the documents and ask you to take a short walk across the bridge to the US customs, there also show your passport and inform that you are doing landing back in Canada, the officer will check your documents and ask you to go back, in Canada customs they will give you a form(yellow colour I think, which basically says no goods to follow) take this form and go to the original building, they will complete all the formalities and ask you to sign with black pen, ensure that you have sufficient proof of funds.
Note: It is also possible to do landing within Canada itself (for ex Mississauga, you have to call and book appointment week days only), but you have to check your documentation, it is easier to do it at the border(any day including weekend) since they are more experienced and it will be smooth...happy landing
