using u-file to do 2009 tax. Have wife + 3kids + inlaws as dependent and me being the family head. I am the only earning person in the family. Anyway have to show $ amount for my inlaws(dependant's) in the following lines :

1)federal taxable income(line 260) from his or her return
2)total of line 300, 308 and 312 of schedule1, plus line 13 of schedule 11
3)total of line 5804,5824,5828, 5823 and 5856 for his or her form 428.

Are all these income suppose to be taken from 2008 tax return. I cannot move ahead unless i put some amount on those three colum of the "dependant's spouse" sheet. At present I have put 0 amount just to move ahead and finish the rest of their form. Hope what I wrote above is clear as mud . This is a very confusing software. I should have brought quicktax. I have had great help on this site a couple of years back from very knowledgeable members especially Pramod Chopra who saved me a bundle when I was claming my inlaws as pedendent under my wife's return . I put in a tax adjustment for several years and got over $4000 dollars back. Once again Thank You Mr Chopra.

I have started to do my homework also. Thanks for this posting. I will let you both continue with your rapport, and let me see if I can get you started on this with what ever software that you have purchased for use. (QuickTax or any other)

2009, T1 General, on the first page, you have the basic information to fill out. Some of us get a bar code and some, an address sticker and a few who file electronically, and they, a reminder that we have one to fill this DURING 2010 for the TAX YEAR 2009. Last day being the 30th of April of this year (Friday Mid Night).

So, you are filling out the page 2, of 2009 T1 General starting with line 101 and go to the bottom of that page terminating there in at Line 150. That is your Total Income. Get it all started, by doing a line at a time and if you come across any other information or slips after that, then you can inset the same and the numbers will change seamlessly and will update the rest. They are all set to do that. Some times you will have to get out of that page and come back to it once again.

On Page 3 of the same return, bring forward the line 150, from page 2, to this top line. It is the same figure.
Then start with line & number 206 and go down that page. You will hit a snag at line 232. It is where Mr. Pramod Chopra helped you with, to obtain the additional deductions. It is applicable where you supported your Parents, or Parents in-Law in the same residence as you are living in here, in Canada. They cannot be just visiting you. They must be living with you. If you don't have a figure to put in, see the previous year's dollar figure from your last year's submission and put in the same. It can be altered later or the CRA's computer will provide you with the current year's deductions.

Beneath the line 236 pretty close to the bottom, You will have "Taxable income" heading. Please go through each line, and see if you have anything that you want to report under that. Then, Total all of these and put it in the line 257 and also alongside where the arrow head is pointing. Total once again Line 236 and 257 (Add the figures in these two lines.) That will give you, your TAXABLE INCOME. for the year 2009. Then proceed to the Schedule 1, and carry on smartly.

This is just to get you started with your program. It does not complete your tax return. It calls for more than what i have written here. So, drop in a personal note to Mr.Pramod Chopra and wait for his response.

Freddie.

EDIT: Here is a software that you can use.: http://quicktax.intuit.ca/canada09/doughnut.jsp
