I am planning to relocate from Toronto to Winnipeg. Can someone please guide me on the following points;

How is Winnipeg?

1) Cost of living
2) School education / University education
3) Weather.
4) Muslim Community
5) Desi Stores and groceries
6) Accommodation and areas considered safe for kids

The reason I am relocating is to sponsor my brother under the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program.....If NOT Winnipeg then some other Town / City in Manitoba keeping the above points in mind....

Any help or guidance will be highly appreciated, thanks.

How is Winnipeg?

1) Cost of living -Rent little bit cheaper compared to toronto, plus you will save some money bcz less chance to get socialise, there are lots of desis though
2) School education / University education - Dont know
3) Weather.-- Cold and dry in winter, lots of mosquitos in summer
4) Muslim Community- dont know
5) Desi Stores and groceries -- 4-5 desi store, dont have many selection like toronto, expensive compared to toronto, Desi Sabzi they get only once a week, if you miss to buy on that day, difficult get sometimes.
6) Accommodation and areas considered safe for kids--there are safe areas in winnipeg, most of desi lives aroun south of Winnipeg, near waverly st.

-Winnipeg is small city, takes 20 mins to go around anywhere. So you dont spend much time in commute if you live n work in winnipeg.

2) I've attended both of the main universities in the city and they are good.
5) you can get many "desi' food items/spices at Superstore, however if you are looking for something very specialized you would have to go to one of the desi stores.
6) Desi's are spread around the city. The north part has as many as the South, but there are more punjabi/sikh's in the north and more gujarati/other indians in the south (and also other parts of the city)

You are approx 20 minutes from downtown no matter where you live in the city, except for during rush hour :)
