Most of the newspapers have some barcode which you can scan with your smartphone to get the updates. Is that task done through camera? Does anybody know if new Ipod touch with camera will be able to do the same task? Also, can you use Ipod touch to receive a boarding pass?
I am planning to buy a 64GB Ipod touch in not-so-near future and I am looking at pros and cons of smartphone v/s ipod touch.
ipod touch i think is same as iPhone without the phone feature.
With iPhone u will have one less device to carry if you intend to keep this with you along with your phone.

Ipod touch has only wifi, so you will not able to access internet where there is no open wifi connection. Why wud any1 need to scan the barcode???
2 scan the barcode, one needs 2 buy the magazine, or product or have the photocopy of the barcode. In some situations it might B more hassel 2 get the barcode ready and safe and difficult 2 do in less light and consume more battery life.
Just entering product number or name should B easy, fast, N simpler.

If u r familiar wth Cdn news pprs, u wl c tht there r barcodes whch u can scan n get de updates. I blve der mite b similr applications whr barcode might b used.
It has nothing to do with product barcodes. So question of less light or more battery consumption does not arise.
My main purpose of buying a smartphone/Ipod is music and Wi-Fi. However, I hate paying data charges to Rogers/Telus/Bell.

Meghal, whatever newspaper you are reading would have instruction on what software to download. For example it could say download Scanlife to your smartphone. Now you should Google Scanlife and check and if it is compatible on a Ipod touch and what are its requirements. If the Ipod touch you plan to buy meets those requirements of OS, camera, etc., then it should work but you will be able to use the feature only where wifi is available.
