I am considering a job offer in Houston. What would be the take home income for a gross salary of 90000. I will be taking my wife and two kids under 16 years of age with me.
Thanks

Try paycheck calculator:

http://www.paycheckcity.com/calculator/netpay/us/alabama/calculator.html

Your take home will depend on filing status, number of exemptions you take, medical deductions, 401k deductions if any, etc. Higher the number of exemptions (max you can take is 4 assuming your wife cannot take exemption on her own), lower will be the source withholding. However, if the withholding is too low at source, you'll end up paying taxes while filing.

The above link defaults to Alabama. Change the state to Texas before calculating.

If you are deemed tax resident for canada, you may have no choice other than to file married filing separate in US federal in order to streamline your cdn taxes.

Thank you. I am not sure if I am making a right move or not. I am making around 60k in Canada and may make around 90-95000 in Houston US. I bought a house here and will obviously have to make a big move. If the net income goes up only $1500, I don't know if I m making a right move?

DDW,
There is a very big difference between 60K in Canada and 90K in the USA.
Your savings will be better in USA as tax rates are low.
Canadian houses (In theGTA) are at the peak. US house rates are at the bottom.
So it makes sense to move to USA provided you take the risk of moving to a new place, new job and the risks associated with that.
