I am a 40 years man working in india as a truck driver / DRIVER. I am intrested to work in canada. I came across several consultants / through news papers & on internet who claim that they arrange for work permit and job in canada. Can we trust hese consultants ? Are they genuine? or they simply keep the initial advance payments and sleep without any response further. Most of the ads cliam that they arrange visas and it is 100% guarantee without ILETS & also without Interview

Please suggest me as the information contained in the site of CHC is only related to how to apply for a work permit and not on how to contact the employers and get a job offer. If any expert knows well or little bit pls provide genuine information on the same.

THANKS

1. Locate a friend or relative in Canada preferably in Alberta ......

2. They can directly contact an employer who can give an LMO and job contract so that you can apply for work permit.

( of course it costs ... they say it is like a security deposit and refund you later once you work for one year)

3. Have all your experience letters, reference letters, license as a truck driver in India, proof in the bank that you receive salary etc ....

4. Then apply for work permit .....

At least, in this way the chances of losing money is less and more reliable approach than others.

As I said earlier, try to identify a friend or relative in Canada who can spend some time for you. If you do not have any one in Canada, then your only friend is "google" ... where you may find some employers who hire foreign drivers.

Dear friend, You have given me good suggestion and i was able to search few employment agencies who are doing LMO for foreig workers. Still it is my huble request if you know some genuine consultants in toronto / in canada who do the jobs for Indians pls intimate me.

Even though i traced lots of employers through google a few replied saying they do not have foreign worker program in their hands currently. So please tell me atleast one website or genuine contact so atht i can correspond with them.

I am asking you as you are already settled there and being an indian you can understand the comfortable way of approach for a fresher indian.

Really grateful to you if you reply with the expectation of mine.

THANKS

Hello T M B,

To give you an idea of what we have here in the North American Continent, please read a little bit about the trucks in these links : http://www.thetruckersreport.com/facts-about-trucks/

An article on Transportation : http://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.com/articles/transportation

Here is a company that you can contact : http://www.itstruck.ca/join_our_team_current_postings.php

For training, as a Mechanic or as a Driver : http://schneiderjobs.com/

"TWO YEAR Automotive CO-OP Program" @ Centennial College. Also One Year too, for Mechanics. : https://www.centennialcollege.ca/coopprograms/Co-opText
< http://www.centennialcollege.ca/Programs/ProgramOverview.aspx?Program=8204>

Safety Checks on Trucks. : http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/trucks/regulations/annual.shtml

http://66.49.173.199/Drive%20Ontario/Truck%20and%20Trailer%20Regulations.pdf

Driver Licensing : http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/dandv/driver/classes.shtml

http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/dandv/driver/
Look for AIR BRAKE endorsement.

You must get your license validated in India by the Ministry of Motor Vehicles in the "STATE" you live. Obtain an International Driver's License (I.D.P.) with a Picture I.D.

If you have your own vehicle and drive it, then, get a letter from your insurance company or companies, mentioning there in that you have a good standing and a NIL accident report from them. Also a letter of recommendation from your past and current employers, with date of joining and leaving, mentioned in it.

You also must remember that your Driver's license is NOT VALID for the Heavy Equipment here in Canada. So, you will have to work and get trained here and take a Road Test and then work with an experienced Driver as an assistant and then gradually move up in ranks in a company.

Must know the communication systems and GPS systems to get by. Also know International Phonetics and alphabets. < http://www.ivao.aero/db/alphabet/>
: Also know the use of the Citizen band Radio and SSB Radios. Must know the local truckers slang and language. http://www.all-acronyms.com/cat/9/tag/trucking/2 & < http://www.all-acronyms.com/cat/9/popular> , http://www.all-acronyms.com/cat/9/last_searched

Should learn about the Highways and the routes you have to travel. Able to read the maps and memorize the Fuel stops and Breaks. "THE BREAKS" are a must in our road transport operations. Get to know about the 'JIT' Just In Time systems. Also about tandem trailers, car haulers and Road Trains.

If you have properties and a steady job there, might be in a position to obtain a TEN YEAR (10) Visa into the United States, while you are there. It will come in handy if you do get a Trans-Border Run and also for a vacation to the USA when you get your holidays.

Most of the firms will provide you with a briefing for a day or some times Three days, if you have to cross the borders, they will brief you with the procedures and the paperwork needed for clearance at that training session. They will also get you a NEXXUS* crossing ID to get you and the vehicle through that Border Crossing, without undue delays.

The company you work for will also train you with WHIMIS** Training, Fire Fighting and the First Aid Courses also.

Now you know what are all the items that you will have to have and complete before you get hired. You might also infer from this why they do not hire anyone over the internet or over the phone, reason being, you are qualified but need an upgrade of all of your papers and training all over again. Hence a little bit about the One Year and Two Year Co-op course offered at one of the institutions here in Ontario.

You have all or most of the materials at hand to work with and see if you can find an employer from your home.

I wish you all the Luck.

FH.
