Dear fellow desis,

I have been reading some of the posts and threads and discussions, including the first ever great meeting in \"Biomed\"'s backyard and photographs, et al.

I even read Mr. Ghulam Rasool's story of despair and desperation, and his decision to go back. I empathise with him and wish him all the luck for the future.

1) Why am I always reading posts and opinions of desis in T.O. and Ontario? Are there no desis outside the GTA? If there are, then where are these people? Are they too busy with their life/work/businesses to be reading such websites?

2) Why do Indian immigrants measure their success in a new country by just their jobs/profession/work? Is that the only reason we came here? Does living in a clean and beautiful country and breathing clean air have no value? What about our kids' futures? Do you think India is in safe hands today with Union ministers like Laloo? Do we not realise that having a stable political system and non-corrupt municipalities and PWD departments is a heaven in itself?

3) Why does everyone think that assembly-line laborers and pizza delivery guys are poor guys that need to be pitied only? When I was working in a kitchen in a Pizzeria in T.O. a couple of years ago, I knew a couple of delivery guys (immigrants, but not desis), were very happy to be doing those jobs, because their kids and wives were safe from say the bombs of Serbia, the gun-culture of Columbia, the oppression of Chine, etc.

4) Lastly, if you all there in GTA want to get the 'creme de la creme' jobs and best business opportunities, get out of the big cities and towns. ONTARIO IS SATURATED!!!! Go outside Ontario; I am in Halifax, NS, and although a small town, with much less business, people seem to be happy here. Think like the goras think!!The jobs they do is not what they discuss over a drink, they talk more about what they are going to do next summer, or where they plan to camp out, their gym schedule, etc.

5) I understand that work satisfaction, job, occupation are important, but try to think from a slightly less serious standpoint, and you will realise that life isn't as bad as we all would like to believe. It's how we look at it all.:)

Vipul , that was very useful and thought provoking . Basically an Indian mind set is to look into only the serious side of life not the finer things in life , the smaller things in life that make life worth living . In spite of the west being so materialist in life they do appreciate all the small things in life .

Vipul, Thats a good refreshing perspective. most desi immigrants who come here have stereotyped what success means.
The fact that we are able to come here and are able to enjoy other benefits of this country is big measure of success in itself .

I once happenned to visit bar harbour, maine. The entire town seemed to enjoy themselves to the fullest in their beautiful town and most earned less than $15/hr. there is more to life to enjoy and be happy about than just a good job and money.

Have fun guys!!

Well Jake, while I agree to what Vipul has written - I am amazed at your quoting a sentence from a guy who did not dare to leave his US job to settle in Canada till he found a good one here first! Had I said that thing, it would mean something because I did leave a really cushy job to settle in Canada - but if you remember, MI had said that he was keeping his USjob till he got one here. People like me first cancelled our work visa in another country and then came to Canada to enjoy the other things of life - but not him!!! So I think the inner him believes that there is hardly anothing else to life till you are able to have a job to feed yourself and the family (in his case, it was only him - no family).

And for heaven's sake - don't brand me as a negative thinker - there would hardly be a person as positive as me even after two years of unemployment (without EI!) and still enjoying everything in life- weekends with friends, fun with family, regular chat on CD, movies now and then, (things that don't require much money)etc etc.

Chandresh, I do not count myself worthy enough to judge MI's 'inner self'. I have more than enough trouble judging MY 'inner self'. Since you are in a position to judge someone elses inner motives, you may very well be a better man than he is, maybe not. It really does not matter to me. I just agree with what he said. I do not have to buy in to the messenger to agree with the message. However, we(MI & me) do share a lot of opinions(if it really means anything to you)

I will not brand you -ve, though I wonder if it matters to anybody else, I certainly dont think it should. Anyway, whatever sails your boat :)

***I AM SO GLAD that you are enjoying life as I am...fellow +ve guy!***. Life IS good isnt it?

:D

p.s: regards to the wife and kids

I agree. Most of members in CD are in Toronto & GTA. There is so much competion in here. Even labour jobs you do not get regularly.
