STUDENT VISA and WORK PERMIT. Please read and get to know, then EXPLORE.

THIS IS A MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT. It is a change to the Normal Study Courses a student takes in a CANADIAN Educational Institution and it OPENS-UP a lot of avenues for all of the Indian Students from India and they can accomplish a lot from their own end. You might miss out on a few of the experiences, exposures and mingling, but the times-are-a-changing and if it becomes permanent, then, you are the very first batch to enjoy this privilege. Make the excellent use of it and prove yourself that you all are well above the standards expected.

Please read on.

Students can begin program online, and still be eligible for 3-year PGWP after coming to Canada. Normally, online courses do not count toward the study requirement for a PGWP application. However, given coronavirus-related travel interruptions around the world, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is now allowing international students to study online while overseas and still be eligible to apply for the work permit after graduation.

IRCC announced the reform during the evening of May 14, 2020.

New international students will be able to begin their programs at a Canadian DLI online in fall 2020 and complete up to 50 percent of the program while abroad, and then still be able to obtain the PGWP to work in Canada after completing their studies.

IRCC also noted that international students will not have time deducted from the length of their PGWP for the period they spent outside of Canada, up to December 31, 2020.

In a hypothetical scenario, a new international student can begin their program at a Canadian DLI online this coming fall, and still be eligible for a PGWP for the maximum three years so long as they arrived to Canada by the end of 2020 and completed a qualifying educational program at a DLI of at least two years in duration.

EDIT.: 17TH JUNE 2020 update. Where do the Immigrants come from.

India continues to lead the way
As has been the case over the last few years, India remained the leading source country of Canada’s new permanent resident (PR) visa holders.

They accounted for 24 per cent of new PRs in the first four months of 2020.

India is the leading source of Canada’s immigrants since many of its citizens speak English fluently and possess other key characteristics that help them become eligible for Canadian immigration such as having university and/or college credentials and professional work experience.

Many Indian immigrants also arrive to Canada from the U.S. since it can be difficult for H1-B visa holders to obtain permanent residence in the U.S.

A look at the top 10 source countries. The following comprise the top 10 source countries of the 74,000 people that gained PR in the first four months of 2020:

India
China
Philippines
USA
Nigeria
Pakistan
Syria
France
Iran
Brazil

So far, immigration from China has been slightly higher in 2020 than in recent years. Chinese immigrants have accounted for nearly 10 per cent of newcomers compared with 9 per cent in 2019.

Filipino immigration to Canada has also remained fairly consistent (7 per cent in 2020 compared with 8 per cent in 2019).

As was the case in 2019, U.S. and Nigerian immigrants are rounding out the top 5. Immigrants from those countries have a major advantage in Canada’s immigration system due to their English-language proficiency, which accounts for a major component of the federal Express Entry system, Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), and other program.

Here is the link to it.
