My friend was laid off and he was lucky 2 get apointed by QNB who at that time offered him QAR 14k . The job was documentation more or less ! This guy was UK educated though .

Lets scrutinise ur case sincerely . 10k means at least 6k saving pm which equals CAD 3.5k or 12*3.5 = CAD 42k pa savings . 5 years and u ll b richer by CAD 200k. However life and career may not b very interesting but who knows if u make inroads 2 the UAE with ur citizenship and Gulf expereince .

True visa wont be an issue since u r Candian . 10k is good but certainly not the best .ot every1 gets this opportunity so think wisely . Actually judge as per ur career criteroins in long term ur present job v/s the Qatar 1.

Manasvi.

That conversion of QAR 6k into CAD $3.5k looks suspect.

Link to this morning's conversion rates from Yahoo.

QAR 6k = C$2.1k

All depends on your perspective. If you are able to avoid Canadian taxes, you might find that attractive from a 'savings' perspective.

However, in a very relative sense, those savings could be matched, if you buy a house, by the increase in value / your equity over the next 5 years, especially if you buy in the GTA.

Windsorguy,

If your are getting 50K + your wife gets say 1800 pm...total take home is CAD 4000+ after tax

This is equivalent to QR 10,000. If your wife doesn't work the you can save QR 7000 pm ie, CAD2800 pm ...ie around 30K CAD annually

If your wife also works in Qatar, then you could save CAD45k, else ur better off in CANADA.

Yeah faux pas . Roughly QAR 3 =CAD $1.

In QAR 4k u can have a 2BR apartment plus a sedan plus family of 2 average living . Work hours will be relaxed and u can ve a peaceful life .Plus a month of paid leave including air fare both ways . try n ask for accomodation . Banks r amongst best payers.

But most imp u need 2 figure the impact on ur career later . Qatar is growing most rapidly in the Gulf & theyve the 2006 Olympics 2 b hosted .

Hey

Don't mean to pick on ya. Its the Asian Games, not the Olympics.

On a different note, I don't know what function 'Windsor' is being recruited into, but I am aware that banks in the region do offer packages that are significantly better than QAR 10k or equivalent.

Windsor, there'd be several avenues for negotiation, ranging from the employer throwing in accomodation + a car to a good furnishing allowance / a relocation allowance.

Thanks all, especially manasvi and crenshaw:

i liked the idea of epploring the chance o fgetting relocation allowance with the employee. Also, asking for accomodation though my source told me that the particular bank dont offer accomodation or a car.

On a different note, any advise how can i arrange my temporary accomodation in Qatar if i decide to go. Any place or mosques where i can look for shared or accomodation available ads. Is it the same system of finding accomodation as it is in Canada or its somewhat different?

Yeah Its the Asian Games !

Generally the sponsor provides initial stay in a hotel / furnished flat . However if u need 2 do it urself following avenues r available in reduced cost order .

1. Stay @ a budget hotel QAR 150/- per day

2. Stay in a furnsihed 1 BR apartment for a min period of 15 days /month . They offer better fare than hotels .

3. Hire out ur own living place . There r ads everyday 4 sharing for QAR 600/- pm incl utilities . Better 2 go for furnished initially so that after 2-3 months u can move 2 a desird area.

Check http://www.gulf-times.com" rel="nofollow">LINK (classifieds ). Stay initially for 3- 4 days in a budget hotel & in the meantime take a flat /sharing acco . Very much workable .

If u need any help email me -- I ve few friends who can b of help .

Hey Gys:

Just to add some info, i have a canadian national status, so my prospective employer, Qatar bank, told me that visa /labour certificate can be issued in 3-4 days. I got a offer of q10k/pm(though still in process).i am getting 50k in canada. so totally con fused if i move to qatar, is it a good decision or what.

remember, i am married, no kids and wife works a retail job of $8/h:)

Any comments/advise is welcome

Depends on total package kya deta hai. ullu bananey ka package bahut hai. Arab log shana hogaya hai. Ghar , gadi, scholling included hai ki nahi. club facilities etc.
