Kap,

You make a six figure salary (something even most Canadians born and brought up here only dream of). You never had to struggle with a labour job here nor did you ever deliver pizza. And you did not come from the U.S. of A., you came straight from India.

Would you not call yourself an ideal success story here?

Yet, I have never seen a single post from you saying anything good about Canada (show me one if I've missed it). Agreed, you're peeved at what some of your friends who haven't been so lucky have gone through here. But does your own story mean nothing to you?

And you repeatedly say that some people don't like to hear anything negative about Canada. Do you mean me? Cause I can disprove that in a second, I've said negative things about Canada whenever I've felt them.

The question isn't about being obsessed about the negativity or positivity of Canada, the question is about striking a balance. Appreciating the good while working to fix the not-so-good.

And do you think that by presenting only the negative side of Canada you are helping prospective immigrants? People who have waited so long to get their immigration aren't suddenly going to change their plans to come here. Instead what will happen is by reading unrealistically negative stuff, they will be conditioned to expect the worst here no matter what. And they'll start looking for labour jobs the day they land, rather than making a sincere attempt to first settle in their own fields. Is this helping them or hurting them?

Should you not be using your story to inspire others?

:D Boxer

That was naughty!

Kap,

It is great to have your own opinions and to stick to them but to expect others to not only gulp them but digest them is asking for too much. Now from where did you get the idea that BL had some loyal bunch of
followers who blindly accept what he says only because he is the moderator!!!!!!!???????

That is ludicrous!! For a person who has been watching the Bush and Kerry debates you are bound to understand that even the U.S.president is not spared and is accountable so where does the question of blind faith come in??

Definitely after reading BL's posts at least I feel that he usually does not allow the role of the moderator to overshadow his role as a fellow immigrant. Rather I have found him on the same platform as new or would be immigrants, sharing his views and experiences which are a sure help to us. That is the essence of this forum and the reason that the membership is increasing in leaps and bounds!! All the seniors specially GG, Jake3d, BL Biomed, Chandresh, MI and so many others, are putting in their time and efforts and taking initiatives to ease the teething problems which every immigrant faces. For that if there is a following please seniors, do count me in:D once I land there. Can't imagine the fan following of GG:D

IMO, nothing is totally negative or positive.....beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder and this is not the skin deep beauty. It is the beauty of noticing the pleasenter side of every thing. It is too deep a thing to be worded. It the same as the glass is half full or half empty . Totally an individualistic thing.......yet the person who thinks that the glass is half full always immerges the winner so why can't we accept that? Why can't we change our perspective? Negativity saps out the enthusiasm, the willingness to face challenges and wipes out the smiles......so why can't we refrain from it?

When I say that female infanticide is an everyday thing in India.I am not trying to justify Dasilva's behaviour.......how can one justify such an abhorrant incident? Neither am I saying anything -ve about India....that is out of question..By having a candid viewpoint I don't become any less Indian.
There is a beautiful gujarati saying" JYA wase Gujarati tya tya wase Gujarat" and on a broader context it can be said" Jahan pe Base Indian Wahaan pe Base sara India" so lets dip into the Indian Culture and pick a leaf from it, a principle so valuable which we have been taught from our childhood & that is " JEES THALI MEIN SE KHATE HO USME TO CHED MAT KARO". Pls.don't bite the hand that feeds you.

A success story is not only one man's handywork....one should be thankful of the opportunities one is getting to become a success, for if anyone had the same opportunities in India would they have migrated?

And here is a beautiful line from a great Bengali song

"Shokol Desher Rani seje AAMAAR JONMOBHUMI, seje aamaar jonmobhumi, seje aamaar jonmo bhumi".....guess this does not need any translation.......

And cynics, pls. don't go around questioning anybody's patriotism ok!

i cannot bear to read stories like this... i have seen too many children suffer and die for no reason in asia... But it's not a problem unique to canada.

however, it is true that the family, as we know it, is coming apart in canada. two thirds of marriages end in divorce; children come to hate their parents when they become teenagers; old people die alone and abandoned in 'old age homes', etc

in my generation they talked about 'latch key kids' (kids who have a key and come home alone, cook their meals alone, etc because the parents are working). not only was i a latch key kid but i had latch key parents!

the family struture is what defines us, it is what makes us human... if we lose that, what is left? hedonism?

in indonesia they love their kids and the family is very important... yet stories like in the article above also happen. i could tell you many horrific stories from here...

where will it end...? are we moving forward in canada, or back? i think we are simply not going forward or back but THE WRONG WAY.

I am just giving a link something parallel to this when many people are moving to hedonism and different lifestyle which is known as new culture and some desis are suppose to patronize this to prove themselves in Canadian society.

If you google "hunger in Canada" it will return 731 matches.

Where is your link on hedonism?

As regards the "731 matches returned for hunger in Canada" have you checked how many related to "raising money for the hungry in Africa and third world countries?"
