It is a simple mathematical formula - the native born put all their energies into one language and most of them know only ONE language, even if they are taught two languages in school. The immigrants on the other hand, with similar capacities, know atleast two - and most of the times MORE than two languages (some of us know 5 languages or more don't you agree?) and so the skill for one language is lower than that of a native born.
I do not understand why Paul Grayson had to do a study on it - it is so obvious!
Once China and India become superpowers and reverse migration starts, the native born will have a tough time learning (CSL or HSL) second language!

It is not a thought...it is simply putting in what I keep hearing on radio and read in print at times about various surveys and extrapolation the west keeps doing day in and day out.
I remember hearing something to this effect on newstalk 1010 about 6 months ago when they were comparing growth in GDP of G7 vis a vis that of upcoming nations like China, India etc.
Frankly speaking - I simply hope it does not happen very soon - or my children will curse me. First I bring them here and keep fighting for building up (my) career and hense spoil our family life as a first generation immigrant, and by the time my kids are ready and armed with western degrees, they find that they have no jobs in the west and everyone is trying to run to China and India - and then they find that they are foreigners and perhaps not wanted in the land of their origin! Will it not be really (personally) sad if it really happens that way?

Dont worry chandreshji,
No matter what GDP or growth rate is but divide it by a billion people and you are left with nothing.......
baki desiyon ka to aapko pata hi hai.....
apni marzi se kahaan apne safar ke hum hain,
rukh hawaaon ka jidhar ka ho udhar ke hum hain........
but still kahi andar se aapka dil bhi chaahta hai ke apna desh ek din itna aagey pahuche........
