You need more RAM (256 or 512 MB)
You can increase the virtual memory without increasing the RAM as well.

On "My Computer" do a right click and choose Properties
Click on Advanced
Click on "Performance Options"
Click "Change" in the "Virtual Memory"

Specify from 3 times to 5 times the RAM (384 MB - 640 MB) for Virtual Memory.

It should increase your virtual memory.

Try alternate browsers (Mozilla Firefox)

But I am sure u need more RAM .. Get a 512 MB stick and you will have 640 MB .
Cost is about $100 http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/subclass.asp?logon=&langid=EN&dept=18&WLBS=fsweb23&catid=10486

If you can take a back up.. then I would suggest Back up everything and give your computer a fresh reinstall.. I do that about once a year to keep my computer running smooth..

Do you go to lot of gaming sites..... ? This causes some unwanted services to be downloaded which run in the backend.

or do you have any p2p services running on your machine.

These could be major resource hoggers....
Anyway, as dfwrp suggested you need a memory upgrade anyway....

Click "start", click "run". Type in "msconfig". Take a look at all the processes/applications that are in the "start" tab. These services are set to start automatically when the computer starts up. You might find quite a few that are unnecessary and not required. Turn them off and see if that helps. There might be some that will start up the next time you reboot the machine irrespective of the fact that you turned them off. These can be removed by some specific tools only. Google on the names of those processes/apps and find out which tool helps in removing what? CWSHREDDER I understand is a good one and I am also told it is free. All hearsay though.
OTOH dfwrp's suggestion is the best alternative. If you use the computer mainly for surfing the internet, and can back up any useful files/apps that you have on the machine, do that followed by fresh re-install. This time around, make sure you stay away from "suspicious" sites. Also, get a firewall.
