PChopra
Thanks it worked ...!

I am glad that the link helped.

In fact most of the times we can find answers to most of our computer problems by searching in Google as most of other computer users also face similar problems and ask these questions on various forums which a good search engine can find for us.

Windows 2000 has an imaging program which I believe is called 'Kodak Imaging' which could be used to open jpeg. and tiff. files etc. When it asks you which program to use, it opens a window wherein you can scroll and see this imaging program and click the same. To make this program your default option, you can tick mark the box where it asks 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file'.

I hope it helps.

microsoft Paint and Internet explorer that come with win2k can open jpeg files. Paint can open Tiffs and other formats tooo. So if you dont hav another image editing prog just choose one of the above 2 from the list.

I am not a computer expert but would try some 'hit and trial' methods which I have learned after my own experiences over a period of time.

BTW, Was this problem there earlier or started after you increased the size of your virtual memory?

Any ways, let us have specs of your computers such as:
RAM
HARD DISK SIZE
PROCESSOR SPEED etc.

As this problem could be because of a single or a combination of factors.

If the RAM is small and you are trying to run a number of programs or big programs simultaneously, this problem can occur.

May be the disk (hard drive) has not enough empty space left (is nearly full) or needs defragmentation.

You may not have a virus but could have a number of spywares running in back ground which makes the computer slow and sometime leads to crash.

Your start up menu opens a lots of program which you may not be using but they also take up a lot of memory space.

In the meantime you could try emptying your recycle bin, delete your temp files and temporary internet files and defragment your hard drive which may improve the space and speed of your computer and can also download 'ADAWARE' (its a free program) and see if you have spyware on your computer. You can also try another free download 'SPYBOT' Search & Destroy' and see if it helps improving your computer speed.

Good Luck

Hope this helps.
