HI,

Could any one help me - I need to know whether I (Canadian PR holder) should be present in Canada for a period of time before being eligible to sponsor my baby (now in india)?

Is it enough for me to be in Canada when i submit the Sponsorship application?

Also, for sponsoring baby do i need to show financial statement?

Thanks for your advise!

As far as I know, for sponsoring a spouse or child, there is no residency nor income requirement.

However, you will need to be in Canada to sponsor your child. To this end you may need to apply for a visit visa for your and then apply to sponsor him/her once you are back in Canada. Or you may need to apply for a temporary resident visa.

Check with a Canadian Embassy / Consulate near you what exactly applies to you.

I am not sure, but you may want to double-check this.
I think there will be an income requirement for sponsoring baby, but not for spouse.

The CIC site should have more info.
Or post this in the Ask Immigration Expert category.

I don't believe there is. Not from knowledge of rules but it just doesn't make sense. The govt. of Canada cannot keep kids in a foreign country away from you because you don't make enough money.

Anyways, I think you've posted this to Massood, so you should get a definitive answer.

There is an income requirement (and lotsa red tape) if you wish to sponsor an ADOPTED baby, not your natural baby. I have read this on another web site.

I can't find this information on the CIC website, though. I can't find information for PRs who have have had babies out of Canada and wish to bring them into Canada.
