Nadir Mohamed- president and CEO of Rogers wireless inc- one of the biggest providers of cable, TV and wireless services.
The person is educated overseas and is of desi descent- speaks with a pure desi accent- nothing Canadian about his accent. Not charismatic- when he speaks he puts the audience to sleep. Yet he is top gun.

Arakesh sent out 100 résumés, looking for an entry-level job. He got one callback and was told that he was too old (45) to hire.

It is just so illogical, ridiculous and nonsensical that I find it impossible to believe that! Just look at what happens.
1. Arakesh sends resumes.
2. None respond. I assume that means he did not get any calls for any interviews.
3.One company responds and the conversation between Arakesh and the compay goes like –

Company – Hello. Could I speak to Mr Arakesh?
Arakesh - Yes. This is he.
Company – Mr Arakesh thank you for very much for sending us your resume.
Arakesh – Ok. So, should I come and meet you?
Company – No. You can’t do that.
Akresh – Huh? Why?
Company – You are 45. You are too old and we do not hire old people. That’s our company policy. Just thought you should know. Have a good day!
:D

After nine days on the job, she hadn't peddled any Sprint home phone systems. She was moved to life insurance — an implicit form of probation. Rather than be fired, Manjri quietly left.

Again contrary to commonsense. When in such dire straits, and with nothing arranged, why should she leave a job of her own accord?? Strange!

He injured himself and was dumped by the temporary agency that had sent him to the plant.

I am not sure, but isn’t there compulsory compensation for injury at workplace? If a company is not providing that, then it is an illegal practice and Akresh should have reported it to the appropriate authorities.

Thanks everyone for your opinion.

ALT 1
I have asked my relative for his home address/number and will apply for jobs over the next 2-3 months. If i get good responses on his voicemail then i think i will definately come.

ALT 2
Can anyone tell me some good 2 year course to study for IT guys like me which will help get a decent job? I want to remain a techie all my life. If that course is really what i like and what i see myself doing then i will come else continue in india.

At the outset I would like to make the disclaimer, that my comments below be taken only as my personal opinion. I am not responsible for any results that arise out of following them.

I don’t know how feasible Alternative 1 is. No harm trying though. What could be better than having a job in hand when landing here?

Nothing can be said for certain about the events of the future. The decisions you take in the present, that affect the shaping of your future, can only be founded and based on a finite number of reasons, deductions etc.

Having said that, in my opinion, you are a reasonably good candidate for immigration to this country.

You, and quite a few others on this board, might be surprised that this is coming from me. I say this because I have generally been one of those who has been of the conviction that this country is not worth immigration for just about everyone. I have, and still do, advice people to exercise extreme caution when deciding to immigrate.

Here is why I think that you will not regret your decision to immigrate:

1. You are young.
2. You are unmarried.
3. You are in IT and have acceptable experience.
4. You seem to have satisfactory communication skills.
5. You are willing to educate yourself further.

These are very important determinants. With these factors on your side, I am quite hopeful that you should eventually end up doing fairly well for yourself.

Why do you regret?

Please remember, my use of the phrase "not regret" is singularly limited to material gains.

The other areas like social life, family, children, culture etc etc are a different ball game and were not of concern in framing my suggestion.
