Well I dont know how I got it so cheap.

I got a new Car - Chevrolet Cobalt and its on lease so I spoke to RBC and GM Insurance. The GM Insurance was cheaper but on a six month policy, but I preferred the RBC Insurance. If you get an home/contents insurance, then you will also get an additional 10% on your auto insurance which is really worthwhile.

When it comes to Auto Insrance do your homework well . When I landed three years back a got quotes from 250-500 Dollors .. Well ofcourse to get 250 I spoke with atleast 50 companies . I realized that some companies give competitive rates to the newcomers ( Surprisingly when I established good history they increased my premium ) . I switched over to TD ( so far the most competitive rates )

we are here on work permit. arrived a week back. applied for SIN no., (don't have yet) went to bank, depsited some $$ and asked for unsecured credit card. got good card (gold, no annual fee, supplementary card, $$ limit equal to monthly salary). all in 1 day.
So I guess it all depends on your personal circumstances. if you have a decent job with a long-ish contract and $$ to show, you get what you want. even an unsecured credit card and very good personal service from banks.
