Identity and civil status documents

I'm putting in an application to sponsor my husband (who is currently working in US on an H1B visa) under the family class immigration. One of the documents required to be submitted alongwith the application is "Identity and Civil Status Documents". My husband does not have his birth certificate. Is there any other document or certificate that will be considered as an identity & civil status document?
