Jain sahab..here is my situation :-

1.) Canadian citizen, with no property, no driving license in Canada

2.) Have OHIP card which will expire in April 2005

3.) Am in the USA, now...paying taxes in the USA...and will leave the USA for India in July 2005

I intend on taking up residence in India ("showing intent of leaving Canada is to take up residence in another country with employment authorization";)....

So how would you comment in my case ?....

Smiley..as per my knowledge ..I would have, at most 50 Canadian Dollars in my bank account in Ottawa.... do I still have to ask my bank to withold 25% NR taxes ?...
Should I file a "departing cdn tax" return separate from a "april 30th regular tax" return ???

1 ) Yes ! you do have to inform your bank about your non-residency for tax purposes

2) departing Canada returns require a T1161 and possibly a T1243 and T1244. You can file these along with your this years's april taxes ..

basically you can even file the regular return as a departure return as long as you put a departure date on the first page.

regular return + departure date = departure return
havent really heard of any special forms to file after talking to 2-3 tax accountants and seeing the REVenue Canada guidelines

Hi ND,

Firstly, sorry for being late. I could not log in for 2 days. However, u got all the info required. U need to inform the bank. It is procedural and nothing to do with funds therein.

I presume, u have been filing tax return here in Canada and availing foreign tax credit. For more info check the link below.
