InterChange GTA invites you to,
Remembering Partition 1947: Dialogue for Healing and Change

In 1947, with the independence of India and Pakistan, more than 12 million people were forced to migrate; over one million were killed; 75000 women were abducted.

The horrific violence and massive displacement of partition inflicted enduring pain and suffering. This collective trauma has not been adequately addressed. Negative impact of trauma is reinforced by regularly recurring violence. Extremist behaviour and culture of violence block efforts of harmony and peace.

To commemorate the 65th anniversary of the partition of India and Pakistan, and to celebrate International Day of Peace 2012, InterChange GTA is hosting a dialogue focused on shared understanding, healing and change. It will be a welcoming, inclusive event where people can share their stories; share experiences; and seek to understand others. Please share with us how partition affected you by posting your story@
https://www.facebook.com/#!/events/392443140810546/

During the event we will ask ourselves:
1. What made it possible for people to kill their own neighbours?
2. How do the events of 1947 continue to affect people?
3. How can we move toward healing and reconciliation?

Place: Peace Lounge, 7th Floor South, OISE
252 Bloor St. W. (at St. George), Toronto
DATE: Sunday, September 23
Time: 2 to 5 PM
