I would not prefer working in India in a state where nobody understands or speaks Hindi.
And those mammoth cutouts of Rajnikant and Jaylalita would scare the hell out of me

You know you are a desi when ........ You spew forth the virtues of India, but don't want to live there...............You've never had a tanning salon membership
I am not commenting about IT since i donot know the situation in Tamil Nadu now.
But to people of other professions, i would recommend you to move to Bangalore since it offers more recognition / Salary than any part of TN.
I made this mistake in 1994. Instead of looking for a job in B'lore, I looked for a job in Chennai. Chennai at that time had one of the lowest salaries in India. The only advantage then was taht chennai was the hub for recruitment to the Gulf/ SE Asia. Besides my home town was the same distance wither from b'lore or Chennai. B'lore is more cosmopolitan and offers better salary and climate. Real estate is also booming. Auto charge is one of the cheapest. Also you can get away in B'lore by knowing only Tamil. A decade back, people tamils in B'lore feared retaliation due to the Cauvery water sharing dispute but i guess that fear is long gone.

To clarify my stance - it is about staying in India and still be not able to communicate in Hindi that freaks me out. I do not expect anybody in Canada to speak Hindi with me.
Hindi is our national language, and it is my right to be able to communicate in my national language. - atleast in metropolis. I am not talking about some rural portions in India - However idealistic it may sound.
