my spouse is in canada with me on a vistors visa.we applied for immigration papers on 12 april.we got the green signal from Missisauga.The file was transefred to India on May 24.The Indian counterpart sent us letter dated 9 june to submit the passport within the next 60 days.She will be leaving for India for the same in July.We have heard horror stories of people waiting for months till they get their passports back.Can you please advise on how much approximate time does the process in India take and what are the next steps?Is there a compulsory Interview and what does it entail?

As per my understanding, you can not mail your passport in other country, I am not too sure though.

I know my friend's wife received passport after 80 Days. That is maximum time I have ever heard.

Hi your wife can send the passport to her relatives in india and they can then post it to the embassy for her but this is really tricky in case she needs to have her stay extended over here. Also, incase her passport gets lost, it will be really unlucky for her. In case you decide to send it through mail pls, photocopy the passport and keep it handy.
Also, it sometimes takes more than three months to get the passport back, so unless she has a permit to stay in the country for more than 6 months, I will recommend that she should go to india and then come back,

How can you send your wife's passport, when she is here in Canada (Am i missing something). As far as my understanding, this is the only document, she had which shows that she is legally visiting Canada. If you send it to India (whichever method) and if tomorrow, somebody asks her about her passport and you are not able to show, then she can be behind bars for illegally entering the country. NEVER EVEN THINK OF IT.
