"Your 'boss' was quite possibly referring to the quality of Indians coming out of India to work in Europe and North America in the past (as opposed to Indians in India)?"

I won't fully agree with the last line "as opposed to Indians in India", my Boss did her PHD in 70's in India (public health), her son was recently sent to Bangalore for a project on "Aeronautical Engg", her daughter was in Ladaakh this summer as a teacher. She once told me she feels "she was an Indian in her last birth, reincarnated”. It’s all by coincidence we found each other but I know what you are trying to say, the Indians are looked up now because of the new image we got from the migrating rush in Europe and NA.

Guys !
Sorry to kindle the fire but I just thought that you must be aware of this person's views. This person worked in Saudi from 1998-2006 and is now in Doha Qatar as a Senior Architect. This is what he has to say about the current status of India. He just recently visited India on Vacation. Throughout the last9 years he has been going to India for a month every year.

Frankly speaking, we all are doing a grave mistake by staying away from India when the whole world is looking at Indian success in these recent times very seriously (atleast I am repending). I started to feel that I belong nowhere right now. After prolonging my Candian immigration process for almost 6 years, I decided not to take up the medical at last ,an year or two before & abruptly put an end to my Canadian immigration process. I dont know till now that I made a right decision on that. Only u people can assess that decision better than me. I didnt have ur contacts then. Else I would have consulted u guys beffore leeting that option to slip through. Anyway no regrets. But definately I want to settle in india now & as well iam getting good offers . But really the GULF- Bug is putting a restraint to my thoughts. Depreciating US dollar ,the high rate of inflation and the recent resceliant Indian economy is slowly eroding the charm in Gulf . Exactly coming to TK's ""Money"" mail, what the money we made here in these days has no real big value in Indian context. As of my recent observation, Definately our indian counterparts are well off, better placed, & more confident than us. In this context I would like to have ur views also.

Hope we will have maturity dealing with this issue.

All these juicy stories about the gold rush in India are making my mouth water... Naught. Regardless how many people you knew that are now making megabucks, ask yourself if you had had such a change. It is quite possible that your life could have remained stale and uninteresting as far as money goes.... or for that matter other things go. The question is: are you having fun here and now... What needs to be done to get your spirits up IN CANADA... while the crowd in India seems to have hard time counting the cash! But the reading is kinda interesting. India is a humongous nation and it is going to take something of a revolution before you could confidently say what others are making could translate to you if you were or are there. I wonder if anyone here with all these rosy pictures tried, at least for the heck of it, to see any of the gold rush winks at you in the job market there? Of course with a big nation like that, you can always see or hear from others how some Jack made it big in a short while and is now sittin' on a great load o' loot!

lol... Looks like India is new America. No? Ok, I admit - I stated it sarcastically. India needs 100 more years to become West. I mean look at the infrastructure. I don't want to start again now. Either you're in Canada or India. Why confusing yourselves while you're in Canada? Not again!!! sigh........

Doesn't matter how much you earn in India, there's always a dream of coming to West. If you don't then for sure, you're lying. When come here, people suddenly become more Indian. Come on. For God's sake...

Are you kidding me? 1 Doha Qatar is approx. Rs. 11 as of now. On the other hand 1 CAD is about 38 Rs. Is this guy comparing Oranges to Apples? How can someone compare immigrating to Gulf with that of Canada?

Well! but this guy gets about 12,000 Qatari riyal a month + free house + Free car+ I month paid vacation with Airfare to India. Plus he was offered a free all expenses paid training in NZ for month. What kind of idiot would come to Canada to be either in a warehouse or earn $10-$12 an hour?
Lot of people make the same mistake of comparing the CAD with exchange rates. If we take your argument, then Kuwait or Oman is tha place that you all should be because Oman Riyal/ Kuwait Dinar is more than RS. 120 a piece.
Oh! BTW, you may just get KD 1000 or Omani Riyal 1000 as your salary there.

All the social problems in the West are now a reality in India as well. Only magnified. Also, you could get broadsided by arbitrary laws concerning property(still the same old multiple registrations, unreliability etc), marriage/family(DV/dowry laws), workplace(ridiculous workplace harassment laws being proposed), children(Child services kind of laws being considered, imagine enforcing those in India). Quotas. You get the drift.

Right now the politicians are waiting for more NRI bakras to invest-in/return-to India. Once it gets to a point where you have invested so much, practically and emotionally, that its difficult to withdraw, then watch them harvest your organs. The are already doing it. It will get exponential.

So, best to keep mobility. Don't put all your eggs in one basket. Spread your savings across the globe, if you can. Instead of buying a $300000 in India, buy two homes $150000 in two countries(Canada/India) or $100000 in three countries(Canada/India/UK). Normally, locations depend on career prospects or other reasons like schooling. The point being, moving to India(or country X) is good as long as you don't get stuck there.
