Hi Friends,

I have sent an application for visitor visa extension on 24th April 2007 for my mother. I didn't get response from immigration office yet.

I called to immigration office and come to know that she can stay legally in canada untill getting response from immigration.

Now, her visa has expired on end of June 2007 but she is in Canada.

As per current visitor visa extension process status, they have processed files till 16th April. I am checking status every week and some week they are not working on extension process and date remain same. some time clearing files of two days only. I don't know when I'll receive response from immigration.

My questions are:
1) Now, she want to leave canada even if she didn't get response about extension. What is the process for it? I mean to say any documents from canada immigration OR indian consulate are required to leave canada as her visa expired?

2) She is hloding Air India return ticket. What do you think about confirm the return ticket within 15 days? Could you please provide me contact number of Air India?

3) She has return ticket from Toronto but we are now in Ottawa. Is it required to come to Toronto to confirm the ticket with Air India?

4) Any travel agent can confirm the return ticket?

i dont think so that you,ve to come down to Toronto to just confirm the tkts...
any booking agent can do that..chk in your area...

also even if one's visa is expired and he/her is leaving on his own, usually no questions are asked at the immi counter.. n i don't think so that you need any kind of documentation for leaving. if immi officer question her then just tell them that extension was applied but its taking too long n she wants to go early....

This not to scare you!!!!

This may not be very similar as i am from europe but probably wud give you an idea.My friend's brother who came to visit her and stayed for a month,while he was leaving he was stopped by the immigration officers as his visa expired 10 days before (which we really didnt see)He was treated just like a criminal.
These germans are rascists .She tried to plead them it was a mere mistake or overlooked they said YOU BROKE THE RULE.And took her brothers finger prints and said we wud send you letter for penalty .But very surprisingly nothing came of that sort it is 10 months to date.

Dont let your mother panic.Take care of all the docs to be produced to the IO if he qustions her.

The worse outcome of "Overstaying " can be "Visa Denial" next time ..
Germans are very particular about visa expiry . When I lived there I knew cases in which port entry was refused even though person was holding "Schenghen Visa " ..
It is always best to have your case of overstay WELL backed up by all supporting documents ..
