NEW TRADITION: Anand Ram Narayanan and Audrey Khew tying the knot at the Thean Hou Temple in Kuala Lumpur after Hindu temples were fully booked for Thaipusam and other ceremonies.
The couple went through a traditional Hindu wedding and proceeded to have a Chinese tea ceremony after.
“It took us six months to get ready. But it worked out just fine. I think it is wonderful that we have Chinese lanterns and the Indian decorations (made out of coconut leaves),” said Khew, 23.
About 700 relatives and friends attended the wedding.
Anand, 31, said he was happy and relieved because he had wanted to marry Khew for a long time.
Their relationship was also a long distance one as Anand, an engineer, was working in Edinburgh, Scotland while Khew was studying here.
“We met through her sister who was my friend. And we were friends for some time and only started going out about two years ago.
“I proposed on July 15 last year in Paris,” said Anand.
