If your friend worked for an employer and got furloughed and he has a business on the side, can surely claim his EI benefits as long he has 'the required number of hours for claiming'. Go to their website and file a claim.

He should not be working for his company and claiming a wage for himself while he is on the dole. He cannot do both. If they find out he will be in trouble.

Lot of people do that. But they have an incorporated company and not run it in their personal name.
