As many have mentioned, I have also got some similar reasons to move to canada..

1. After becoming Canadian Citizen i can work in any country so in a way i get more area to try my luck. Having business as my life objective it makes big difference if you have access around the world. ( we all know its a big question for Indian Passport holders to just enter any country)

2. Higher tax though but that can be equilized with Old age benefits.
3. Easy migration compared to other countries.. ( given a choice if US was having similar option i would have tried US first)
4. Going back to India is worst than canada
5. Dubai doesn't promise future.( No citizenship or PR THis reason should have been first though)
6. Dont want to regret later, so just want to give it a full shot at this age.

The above reasons have influenced my decision of moving to canada.
I hope this gives little insite of immigrant mind set.

There are many reasons why one would decide to immigrate to Canada. I am looking at it from an Indian point of view. Below are the reasons:

Better education in Canada
No Donation system
No Influence or political clout used as frequently as it is used inIndia for Admissions, Jobs etc
Better medical facilities
Better police systems, local authorities and local administrative bodies
Better infrastructure in Canada (Bad roads in India, even in big cities)
Less population density as compared to India
Better Human and Animal Rights in Canada
Better lifestyle in Canada

Need I say more?

I have applied in Dec 2001 (They started processing in Jan 2002). So I am yet to reach there.

Regards
Vijulibra

Sorry I have to disagree with you. I am from UK and been here for nearly 3 years.
first of education here in Canada is so slow the kids in most SK learn how to play with SAND noth leanr education
2 If you want good education u need private schools and you know what there is a donation every year
3 Most jobs found here in Canada is through referals from friends etc, normally immgrants may be very skilled have phd's but if u don['t know influential people you normally end up working in labour jobs.even for private schools you need to have influence
4 Medical facilites compared to UK are crap. eg babies need chicken pox and meagitis vaccine but you have to pay for them OHIP does not cover them so wealthy people can afford them whilst people less fortunate can't so I would say that is not very equall, secondly dental cost a hell of a lot of money and if your company does not cover your kids will have funny teeth

5. No comment on police system, wait till you see with your own eyes
6. Infastructure sucks too. Loads of traffic, crap public transport system you would think this is not a very developing country.
7. better human rights well as long as you give up your dreams and become a labroure working 12 -14 hour shifts 6 days a week and then paying the goverment thats good human rights
8. lastly better lifestly in Canada. I don't understand why rich people who have loads of money good jobs and everything give up everything to come here and work in such crappy jobs and much worse conditions.

I am not saying all this because I am bitter as I have a very good job, fairly easy lifestyle and my kids will go to private school. What upsets me i have met some wonderful very eductaed people who have come here and now they cannot even afford the basic lthings in life. Where they had servants in India they are working as servants people with PHD's working as a cleaner because his english ha s an accent or they have no Canadian experince. How are they going to get Canadian experince if no one hires them. It makes me furiuos this country for immigrants from India is not fair, calling all these educated people to work in factories :D :D :D :D

Well people come here hoping it to be a better life like myself and they are in for a shock when they come here. They teach stuff on how to network, do cold calds, resume writing and all the crap. Every counsellor you go to have a diffrent view of your resume. Life here is tough, much tougher then where we come from. I have met lots of people who have gone back and some are staying here for 3 years, get the Canadian passports and get the hell out of here. School stinks here and the "F" word is used almost daily like its so common. Lots of youngsters slepping around and having partners. Medical facility is not what they claim and guns and robberies are rampant now.

Only good thing here is the natural beauty whcih you see in the Hindi Films. Other than that you survive here by moving to a different field or get 2 jobs to sustain you

Few reasons when we planned migration (after I read a no. of posts here I just had to put (!) marks everywhere)

Security ('coz we now live in the middle east!)
Better quality of life!
Good education facilities for children!!
Possibility of making a country your home after living for more than 5 years (which is not possible where we live now!)

Now we are so confused after reading all these posts in your forum....!!

BTW, what are the prospects for a couple in early 30's to land and continue higher (masters) studies rather than hunt for any...kind of job?

hi,

It depends what field you are in, for job prospects. As for studies it is quite easy to do your masters but can get quite expensive. Even though there are a lot of negative points there are a lot of positve points for people too. If you are in a good carreer then you have a great life here. You get to send your kids to private schools which are not too expensive and the educaation there is brilliant. Alos Canada is a good place to immigrate to for the reason USA has a very high viloence level and UK too. so if coming from india and you are in a good career then Canada can be for you. Also I heard a guy say kids sleep around, well you know what they do that in India, uk anywhere you name it. Sorry to say Indian films are more explicit than ever before, so the comment about teens well I disagree. Here they do it openly in India then do it hiding., e very indian drama you see everyone is having extra maritial affairs and I am proud to say western indians ie uk and canada the rate of infidelity in indians is not that high. Everyone who come from india thinks if you are in IT then you are guaranteed a job well that is not the way. Also it is a beautiful country beautiful summers lots to do but like I said if you are in the right carrer and if you can afford to study that is a good idea but make sure you pick a subject that is in demand.
