Today I am so upset with day care ....

We like the day care where my son goes, its nice, neat and clean....

But the thing that bothers me is they are always telling "by law we have to do this, by law we have to do this ...and they may be right but as a parent to me it is all crap...seems like they are more interested in harassing us then helping or taking care of the child....

Oct 2008, they took kids out to play and all kids have dift immunity / tolerance, my son got ear infection. After ear infection, what is their role ? nothing, we have to take days off, time off, wait in walk in clinic for hours, buy medicine, and child has to suffer....fever and pain and making kids take medicine is a whole dift storey...

and if this ear infection keeps repeating, we will have to go through surgery to put a tube inside ear....and what day care cares ?

Again they took kids out twice last week and my son got ear infection....i was so mad but i said nothing (not that saying helps) but today i just mentioned that he has ear infection if you can pl not take him out for few days till he recovers and antibiotics dose is complete...

their reply / concern : oh we cant do that, we need a doctors note for doing that, by law ...blah blah blah...our ratio of kids gets disturbed and if inspector comes, we will have to explain......OMG....

I wanted to just take my son home with me and resign from job and tell them to $$## off ....only if i could.

Even samll requests like can you pl put cream (normal skin ceam) if his skin is dry, oh we cant do that....

I totally sympathise with you...they should be renamed : DAY DONT CARE

Sorry, cannot help you, just wish to share your frustration.

OTOH, there might be some declarations you can give to them in writing which prevents them from taking your child outside due to medical reasons. Please contact thier management, there might be a solution to it. I know we have to sign a waiver if the school takes the child on trips outside of the class - if we dont sign the waiver, they cannot take the child out - I am not aware about day care though.

Hopefully there is a legal way and you should speak to management in a professional way.

You have to see whether the day care is making up things or do they really require you to do that.

Try becoming a teacher and you will find how many restrictions and duties you have according to the law. Do you know that it is considered improper if you want to hold a weeping child of age 4, as a parent would do and console that child? If you do that as a teacher, you can be blamed for sexual misconduct!!!!

There are a lot of laws and one has to abide by them - today as a parent you may tell the supervisor you do not care about it and are ok with your child being hugged by him/her to be consoled, but you have all the right to charge the same teacher/supervisor if he/she actually does it on your say so!

So that is law of the land, and you got to abide by it.

On a related note - in 2000 when I was wanting to rent an apartment and it was difficult to find a 3 bedroom one, I was ready to take a two bedroom one. However, I was not entertained by the sups of those apartment buildings because I had a son and a daughter of age 10 and 13 - because as per law, you need separate bedrooms for children of different sexes of that age!

Since it is normal practice to take the kids out when the temps are barely 0 deg C, make sure the day care dresses your child warmly with head/ears covered, along with layers, mittens and warm boots.

Their stance on ratio of kids and such is because the teachers have to be with the kids when they are outside, hence, having someone stay behind to watch 1 or 2 children inside the daycare disrupts the required teacher to kids ratio. Unfortunately, we live in a sue happy society plus there are umpteen laws.

Is this completely ruled out? Are you working because you HAVE to? Just asking...don't take it the wrong way. My wife is a stay-at-home Mom and she is doing a fantabulous job with our child whose development has been exponentially better than those going to day care (based on the few other couples and their children that we know).

Our child does fall sick every now and then - airborne illnesses mostly - but it is easier for us to manage when such things happen too.

On the flip side, it will get better. Your child's resistance will increase in due time. Till then, you are at the mercy of the day care.

Stay positive though...

very appropriate answer by dimple2001......just get appropriate clothing for kid...esp to cover ears, if child doesn't want to wear ear muffs, get a cap that has long flap like things to cover ears(easily available in children clothing store). Its not just day cares...you will face similar thing when your child goes to school, even if child is not very well or has just recovered...no reason will be accepted for keeping the child in the classroom. all the kids have to be taken out for sometime to play, even when its snowing.

I can feel your pain. My daughter had an ear infection once and it is painful.

For Day-Care ... may be its time to look for another one, if you find this one unprofessional.

If I were in your shoe, with current day-care facility, I would have asked for rule book/guide that they keep refering to so that I understand the system better and set my expectation accordingly. They definitely have to pay heavy price if they slip so naturally they will be careful. Child Care is sensitive profession I guess.

But you don't have to take it as it is ...

Educate yourself a lil better and see if they are genuine or no.

There is much more than 'nice, neat & clean' to day care. Its about 'caring'.
