Shanti Das whose website is given below is a True Desi Hero.

She is doing something which I would classify as the ultimate Dhaan she could offer to the society or to any family.

It is shocking to find many a families are unwilling to take the body from the morgue as they cannot afford a decent burial.

Dear Friends, Family and Colleagues,

Typically when I think of Detroit, I think \"Motown,\" the city that captured our hearts with some of today’s most respected artists/music of our time! I am sure most of you are aware of the financial crisis that the City of Detroit is currently experiencing. I come to you today not to talk about music, but a basic human issue that is all too sad! Yesterday, I came across an article on CNN.com in the Money section entitled \"Detroit: Too broke to bury their dead.\" I was deeply saddened and speechless when I read it! Basically the city and many of the families cannot afford to bury their loved ones. The bodies are literally stacked up in the city morgue like clothes in a small closet. Families have left their relatives there because they simply \"Don’t have the money.\" The state has some assistance available, but the city has exhausted its budget and those wanting state funds have to apply for grants, etc.

I had to stop and really think about this for a second. What if it was MY mother, father or loved one lying there in the morgue and I couldn’t afford to properly lay them to rest?? I have experienced SOOO much pain over the years from losing loved ones and close friends. It was HARD enough to just get through the funeral service! I couldn’t even fathom not being able to properly bury them. While I was too young to remember, my own mother was faced with a similar situation when my father passed 38 years ago. You see, he committed suicide which meant that the insurance policy would not cover the cost of his funeral and burial. However, due to the compassion and kindness of the agent who saw a young mother with three children and no other means to bury her spouse, the insurance company paid for the services. Friends this article moved my spirit so much and sat on my heart ALL night! I have decided to take on a personal initiative/crusade to help bury and/or cremate as many people as possible in the City of Detroit. I NEED YOUR HELP!! There are nearly 70+ bodies in that morgue and possibly more in other morgues. Please support me in this most personal endeavor.

I have developed a campaign called \"May WE Rest in Peace.\" I am also reaching out to my fellow Syracuse University Alum/Mayor of Detroit Dave Bing along with CNN in hopes of supporting me in this effort. Until the site launches, there is a personal mailbox set up to begin immediately receiving donations. It costs almost $700 to cremate a body and $2k plus for a modest burial. No donation is too big or too small. \"May WE Rest in Peace\" will be a 5013c. Please send check or money order c/o:

May WE Rest in Peace
96 Linwood Plaza
PMB #379
Fort Lee, NJ 07024-3701

I have setup a bank and paypal account. The money will be collected over the next few weeks and I will personally present the funds to the morgue/families in Detroit. It is my goal to take care of as many of the deceased as possible. I have attached a link of the article from CNN for your review or you can go to CNNMoney.com and search Detroit to see it. ( http://money.cnn.com/2009/10/01/news/economy/_morgue/index.htm).

PLEASE HELP ME, HELP THOSE THAT TRULY CANNOT HELP THEMSELVES.

Hear My Cry,
Shanti Das

P.S. Thank you to Poppy Harlow from CNN Money for shedding light on this problem!

If you can support her cause it will be the best gift you can give some one.

I do hope to see more of Shanti Das's in Canada in future.
