The movie "Monsoon Wedding" had that as its main theme. Eventhough its exterior was about a grand Indian wedding it dealt about a girl facing her tormentor and stopping another girl being victimized.
The issue is not that whether we have pedophiles in India or not. But in the west with so much policing there is a flourishing industry been run by these guys and the people involved in these are not the seedy kind.
BUT your clergy, school teacher, policeman and everybody in this society who have clean images outside but a dirty secret inside.

There is no use of covering it up or pointing fingers to US / Canada where it is taken very serious and the news hit the air in no time.
Its the society in India to blame where the families cover the crime against women under the carpet for the sake of the girls future. The criminals often walk scot free due to this and they are bound repeat the same, in cases they are appropriately handled by bigwigs but it isn't case most often.
What else to expect from such a society back there who is more concerned about their relatives and neighbors than being just or self-esteem.
The pain such kids go through at such an early age in their life is beyond imaginable. Psychologically, it ruins their entire life.

Well, I do not want to debate about child abuse in India.
I am surprised that you have quoted an article from Yhe Hindu. It si one of the most disgusting news paper in India, full of distortions and lies. Its owner N.Ram is a spineless guy and die hard supporter of China from whom it gets lots of money. Seems like he is trying to whitewash Rathore's crime using typical ELM logic and trying to distract attention from main issue which was total abuse of power by a senior ranking police officer and his friends in politics. The same Hindu did not report abhorrent crimes of Rathore a decade back.
I do not see or believe that child abuse problem is more pronounced in India compared to the West. Unfortunately, those who can read English (but can not appreciate it) in India are mainly morons. Can you imagine any newspaper trying to lighten crime committed by Rathore in West?
To all those who are outraged at what I wrote, I make no apology. If you feel that this is to \"malign\" India, that is simply your reaction. I just posted this for the information of those who do not read THE HINDU. Going by my math, thousands of CD viewers have NOT responded negatively - so I would believe they did benefit from knowing what was happening.
To those who feel that this is yet another attempt to show \"the dark side of India\", I can only say this: should something like this be rampant here or elsewhere, I will certainly highlight it here in these columns.

To the person who made insinuations about THE HINDU: Each person is entitled to his or her own opinion. I may not like a certain newspaper - even the person who owns and operates it. However to make false accusations does no good because the truth will be out one day.
I disagree with N. Ram when it concerns editorial policy. I have read this and other newspapers for over 20 years. When G.Kasturi was at the helm, things were different - Today there is a lack of balance. However to say that news is distorted or that N. Ram is funded by the Chinese government, is far from correct.The newspaper has existed for 130 plus years, and even today there are generations of readers that swear by the daily.
N. Ram is an enormously wealthy person - Simply because you disagree with a piece does not make N. Ram corrupt.
I was peeved to see 12 stories in the newspaper the day Jyoti basu died. That said, I would rather write to the newspaper to express my indignation, rather than call N. Ram names. It would not be the right thing to do, whatever the provocation.

The point is not " wat is right or Wrong" - We all know the truth...so stop posting useless articles...
No one is perfect, but It could always improve ..
trying to help improve process is a good thinking
but not by always complaining...
We have some dark side that we know... but we have so many good quality also....so them to outside world ... educated them about india by having good image...
Only indian knows the good quality of India..outsider think we are all "Slumdog "
Work on something how can we change the image of india.... only ppl from India can change image...so be a good person and promote our good side..
