Hello,

I am new in Canada. My question is
-Minimum how much time is necessary for me to stay here before applying for the
family sponsorship for my parents. I mean, is there any time frame or I can apply
right away?
-Secondly, how much financially strong I have to have before applying?

Thanks
Umesh

I don't think there is any waiting time before you can sponsor them. As regards your second question, you need to show sufficient income to convince the immigration authorities that you can support them and any other dependants you have. A fixed figure is unlikely because for familes that are for example already large with say 5 or 6 children the cut off point will be different than for one that has only the spouses. If you are working on minimum wage, I don't think they will allow sponsorship.

I wonder why people post such questions at this kind of a place
This is serious info and the question should be addressed to CIC call centre to get accurate picture.
The guide is available online at
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/guides/5196E.PDF

and the info given as previous answer is wrong...............there is a FIXED minimum income required before one can sponsor. This is based on family size in Canada. Plus in addition you need to have sufficient income to meet requirements of persons being sponsored.

I do agree with Chor_per_mor. CIC immigration guides are excellent and CIC website is excellent source of information. Once should always go through the guides closely and get the best of knowledge and information outta it. In my family, we have put up atleast 5 immigration files without taking help from any professional immigration agents and with strictly following immigration guides, so far we haven't faced any problems yet. Fingers crossed!!!!!!

I followed the following procedure just to gather information:

1) go through the immigration guide. Closely digest each individual points, documents requirement, proper information fill up in the forms

2) Call CIC centre if there is any questions. This is tedious in the sense to get hold of representatives but once you able to get them they will provide best source of informations and will definately help you out to solve the problems if there is any.

3) If still your problem, specific to your application does not get resolve contact immigration lawyer or post it to a news group incase you don't want to go for paid services. Masoodji or some other lawyers will definately help you to sort out your problems, but please do not buy other people's info as "Devvaani". A single information which can misled a person will result into delay or failure.

I hope this will help you. I am just trying to represent a good process to follow here. If you think this is just waste of time then sorry for your time.

saw an article today that Canada ranked the first w.r.t e-govt(making govt info available online). Followed by Singapore and US in the second place. I think Norway, Sweden etc came in right after.

I could agree with that!

However, without meaning to call Canada bad - you might have also read in today's news that Canada is ranked the last in top five (industrialized....? I am not sure right now) nations in its health care!
