Hi,
I'm a PR currently. My parents are PR too, however, they are going to loose their status soon since they haven't stayed for at-least 2 years out of the 5 (they only have one year left until the PR expires).
I on the other hand have stayed for almost 3 years. My question is:
-Can I apply to sponsor my parents to Canada, while they currently have their PR status (which is soon to expire?)
-If not, how long do I need to wait after my parents PR expire to apply for sponsorship? How long does it take to sponsor one's parents?
Lastly, could someone tell me what is the approximate time-line to get your Canadian citizenship, after satisfying the 3 years residency and then applying?

- You cannot sponsor your parents if they already have a valid PR.

Technically, you can apply the day after their PR expires. It is currently taking an average of 4.5 years (3 years for your sponsorship to be approved, 1.5 years for the processing in New Delhi)for sponsorships to be approved.

If you are applying from the GTA,it is taking 12-15 months.
Why do you want your parent's PR to expire? I would advise you to ask them to enter the country while their PR is still valid. It is upto the immigration officer at the port of entry to make a determination if their PR is valid. It does not hurt to take a chance, rather than allow their PR to expire and then wait for another 5 years to get their sponsorship approved.
Wow ... it takes 4 -5 years to sponsor? I thought it took only 1.5 years after the application. I'd be applying for sponsorship from Canada itself and not Delhi.
Can you please provide me with a link confirming the same?
Processing timeline http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/canada/process-in.asp#sponsorship
As seen from above link, the In-Canada portion takes 3 years(sponsorship approval) and the actual processing of the file in New Delhi takes a minimum of year and half.
