Hello all,
My husband,me and 2 kids will be landing End of June, God willing. After much deliberation we have chosen Mississauga to be our destination and abode.
1) we need guidance and advise as to the area, scanning google maps and online rental ads is confusing me more and more. I hope anyone of you can shed light as to the areas of Mississauga.
Plan is like this :
Land in Mississauga in a furnished apartment for the first month till we can have a look around before we take a 1yr lease apartment contract.
after 2 months my husband will be leaving for a job aborad leaving me and kids on our own.
i need a very convenient locations with walkable access to Pharmacy, Grocery Shops ( desi and non desi), School, Hospitals or clinics, and transit stops.
as i would be alone, i would need a safe and friendly neighbourhood where i can access everything easily.
Please help me locate such area, are there any neighbourhoods that you can recommend? budget is around $ 1000
i saw Cooksville had lots of desi shops and lots of convenient places around. is that a safe and lively area?
any other areas? Please need you help!!
2) if we should give an address forehand for the pr - how do we go about it if we dont have family or friends in Mississauga? if we give an address what is the procedure to change it in due course? would that be risky??
3) is there any airport pick up service to receive us? safe ones =)
I am from Southern India, need advise.
If you are interested in Brampton, then you can check this out
http://www.kaneff.com/apartments-twoten.html
It has a Superstore a large grocery retail store across the road, Brampton trasit and Mississauga transit is right next doors, Indian grocery store - Golden Grocery is walking distance, Walk in clinic is noext doors.
This has a number of immigrants from south asia, so you will feel at home. ICICI bank and south indian restaurant - Anjapar Chetinnad is also walking distance.
The rent for a two bed is around 1050 - 1100 range and it includes all utilities. This is a safe area, but the schools are not very good. But if you have small kids (say upto Grade 6-7) then that should not be a problem as you can move out after a year. This location used to be immigrant friendly, dont know how they are now. But you can call and find out about availabilty and booking an apartment.
Most new immigrants who land in Mississauga stay at Webb Drive which is a stones throw from Square One and close to public library, schools, supemarkets.
We stayed there for the first year renting a two bedroom apt for $1350 PM.
Initially we stayed at furnished apartments also clsoe to SQ one for three weeks.

There is a south indian restaurant in the building as well.
Take a limousine from the airport , they are safer then getting a ride from shady folks who hang about the airport.
Hurontario dundas should be another favorable location . You have a Food Basics with Pharmacy , Indian Store and a pretty busy desi immigrant friendly area ...

Fido.
Thank you for your replies, i need information for furnished apartment in the budget range $1000 to $1200 only......Webb Drive seems very posh and exceeds my budget. Please suggest other apartments for rent in those favorable areas like hurontario, dundas and webb drive area.
does anyone know the rent for 265 Enfield Place, it seemed in a good location as well with the famous Udipi Madras Cafe right there - but couldnt get the rental quote on it.
Thank you all for all your support for new 'unlanded' immigrants finding their way in the dark.
Best regards.

Yes I agree with the earlier posts that the area near square one is highly expensive. For newcomers the affordable areas are near and south of Dundas/Hurontario the otherone is the east of Dixie/ Bloor. Relatively convenient transit access, grocery stores, schools etc. You can get good details onhttp://www.viewit.ca/city/Mississauga.aspx" target="_blank">LINK
