Edmonton is not a very big town.
I can feel your concerns. You child is 5 years old and Fort Mac may not be the best place to bring up your child.
I am confident that you should refuse this offer but then try to look for other jobs in big cities. My guess is that in around 2 years you will get a very good job in Calgary, Edmonton or the US.
All the best.

Man, you're milking the dough. Why risk it? Just stay put and keep your mind at peace. You don't know about the future chances. Might as well make as much money as you can at your existing place.
Just don't make that mistake. JUST DON'T.
Edmonton is not such a big town to make that move. It is still a small town but much bigger than Fort Mac.
In Fort Mac., if there are 2 Tims, tehn in Edmonton there are 10. That is the difference.
Since you are Technician and not a professional, I donot see your need to stay in a big city.
My advise is, make Hay while it lasts. No one is sure about the future.
Donot say that you will not get jobs in Calgary or Us in the future. My friend was a NDT tester of oil field pipes and he was in Calgary for 50K salary. Once you have the talent and experience, you can always find oppertunities in the city.
Bottom line, donot move out of Fort Mac..
Another thing is that you are not list the things that you want in a big city that you are not getting in Fort Mac.. May be after you list that, we may be able to find out what Fort Mac is lacking to give you.

Fort mac have school up to 12 , no university
in edmonton there are big malls to pass time in cold winter
in edmonton there are indian restaurants , movie theater, indian grocery more varities available . School education is better in edmonton compare to fort mac. Easy access to go india. Can buy house in edmonton and settle with aim to spend my retired life.
Lol Metouk !
You are thinking about retirement , University and Retirement at the age 45 with a small child.
These can come later on. May be after 2-3 years, when Oil will cross $ 60 per barrel and the economy booms up and you may get a job at an oil field in USA which is very near a Big city.
Malls, Restaurants and movie theatres are all only small time passes. The bigger timepass is quality time with your family.
I would suggest you to put a dish and construct a home theatre in your basement and also make friends with some Desi;s. Life will be much easier.
Also if your job is only 5 days a week or 7 days on and 7 days off, you can make a daytrips to Edmonton, visit malls and be back.
Try to be happy with what you have got. Try to use the services among your town rather than looking for bigger town with less salary.

No one has to list anything for you. It's your job, your life, your decision. If you believe Edmonton offers better broader options beyond salary that you are seeking on a personal level for you and your family, then go for it. Best wishes.
