Just for the info of everyone, depending on your province , if you incurr expenses for treatment outside Canada , those expenses can be reimbursed by provincial govt upto a max limit of the cost of same treatment in the province. Check with your local health dept for details.

I guess everyone is right from their standpoint . and i also think Jake summed up this discussion pretty well early on in this thread , but we can keep spinning wheels here, if we want.:D

Contrary to what our elections suggest :) just Ontario is NOT Canada :D

Quebec has a prescription drug plan, BC has one...I think Alberta too. Albertans can confirm. Ontario may well be the only oddity, inspite of being the richest province?. So dont 'blame Canada', 'blame Ontario' ;)

btw: the abuse in malpractice lawsuits is one of the reasons for higher insurance premiums(for doctors). This is transferred to the clients. I really dont think we should be comparing the Canadian system with the US system. Both have their own inherent problems. Just like in life...NOTHING is perfect all the time. We all are entitled to our preferences.

I strongly support the views expressed by Bio and Chandresh, They have put them nicely. Availabilty of healthcare is restricted in term of doctors, hospital and special medicare. Several surveys have endorsed it. Services like MRI are least available. 3-4 hrs waiting time is common whether one go to family doctor or walk-in-clinic. Emergency services are a real disaster.

Prescription fee is an extra burden. This is a useless service. Whatever precautions, symptoms etc are written on prescription can be written on a leaflet which can be sipplied with medicine like in India. Prescription cahrges difer from store to store. Prescription written by stores like Shopper's Drug Mart carry some valuable info but written by some others are just loke a lebel without any info.

I myself faced emergency service just after one and half month of landing. My younger son who was just 1 yr fall sick. None of the walk in clinc could help and i had to call for 911. The ambulance came after one hr and we had to wait for more than 3 hrs before he had got doctor's attention.

Indian health care is really good than Canada. At least primary health care is easily available to everybody - 24 hrs/7 days a week by a nereby doc/clinic. indian doc are more experienced.

I could not find good experienced doctors including specialists here. My elder son has been facing a minor bone disorder in his leg. It was noticed couple of months back. I happened to be in India in Feb and saw an orthopedic doctor there who advised some in house exercises which could lead to cure. I came back in March and it took 3 months to get an appointment with an orthopedic here in Canada. Firstly, in his opinion it is not a disorder to worry for because it is a mionr disorder. Secondly, after all the x-ray etc. he opined either this disorder can be cured or we had to wait and watch until he turns major. What kind of opinion?

RAM BACHAYE YAHAN BIMAR PADNE SE OR YAHAN KE DOC KE PAS JANE SE.

Having expereinced the healthcare in the US, Canada (Ontario) and India, my expereince is as follows:

In India and the US seeing a family doctor is easy. You can make an appt and walk-in. No problems. Of course in the US you have to have a medical plan but if you do then you get good care. In Canada after 4 years here I have yet to find a family doctor. When I go to the walk-in clinic sometimes the doctor is late, almost always I have to wait a few hours and at the end the check up is perfunctory and doctors are hurried and overworked.

If you need specialist services, in India even the middle class have access to some degree of care immediately. In the US the wait time to see a specialist varies with the disease but in Canada I have had to wait 3 to 4 months to see a specialist. Does the govt wait 3 to 4 months to take the taxes out of my paycheck?

I would rather the govt reduces taxes and cancels the so called \"free\" healthcare so that at least with the money I save I can take a short trip to India and get medical attention there.

As far as I know you live in the USA, if this is the case you must know Pharmacist is not allowed to dispense the substitute of the prescribed medication.
Thanks and regards.

Sir,

I have tried the most common and effective nasal spray available without prescription. IT is called OTRIVIN and famous thruoughout the world. It is sold in India also. Unfortunately all over the counter Nasal spray are not supposed to be used for more than a week or so. I used it for a few months. It is very effective but not good for health and very addictive. The only other option was prescription spray which does not have side effects (hopefully). Its called FLONASE.

Now about the Job:cuss: :D
