Hi! Guys

While browsing thru the site, I had come to know that one has to buy
prescription medicne.

Uptill now I was thinking that medical is free in canada.

So what is this prescription medicine. If it is same as what a Doctor writes on Prescription , and one has to purchase it than what is included in health coverage provided by government.

Kindly update me.

Thanx

Vivek

Medical system is Canada is BIG JOKE. They cover few things, but there are many known/unknown things they don't cover.

The major one is medicine - you have to buy your own medicine and as you might be aware, drugs are very costly here.

Following things they don't cover (or partially cover)

-- Dental
-- Phisiotherapy
-- Eye Checking (limited, only once a year)

I don't know furhter but there should be many. It is most ungly medical system in the world!

Tell me a country where basic health coverage is FREE...

Just for example the same basic health coverage (without dental and vision) in USA cost you anywhere from $US100 to $400 per month. If health benefits covered by your employer, then you have yearly $600 deductibles..

It's allowed only once in TWO years.

Prescription drugs are covered by Govt only for the people who are in low income category. ($28,000)

There's definately room for improvement but we desis are way too harsh on healthcare in Canada. Its actually one of the best in the world, its a shame that people take it for granted.

Say you've been laid off in the U.S. and God forbid, meet with an accident or something. You're screwed big time. Hospitals sometimes won't even accept you without a health card. And if they do, a $100,000 bill at the end of your 5 day stay with surgery isn't likely to raise your spirits. I can give a few more examples if you need them.

Before calling the Canadian health system the ugliest in the world, kindly point out which countries you're comparing with.

True, Prescription drugs (medicines which your doctor prescribes) are not covered. However many employers do provide a health plan that covers this and dental + vision.

Thanx Guys

All your replies are indeed very helpful in knowing about the canadian system.

Is health plan provided by all employers or only by some well established one's only.

Also if we buy an insurance plan to cover the costs of prescription drugs than what is annual payment appx.

Kindly update.

Thanx once again

Vivek

Well thought response from chandresh after initial critisizm from tummudu and Blue lobster.

I think Ontario is spending 47 percent of its income on Health!! REPEAT it is HALF!!!

Do you think that anywhere in the world you need 50 percent to spend on Health?

This is too much. If you go for immergency to any hospital only god can save you.

We are wasting lot of money just because of this poor medical system. I hate this :(
