We applied under skilled category to CIC London in mid 2004 in February this year we were called for interview to Abu Dhabi the interviewer said they will let us know the results in 6 weeks time but it’s almost 4 months now we have not heard from them. We have sent email and fax to CIC, no response so far.
Couple of questions during the interview did not go well:
1). She asked us when we are ready to move, we said will get our landed imm status first then after couple of years we will move for good. She did not like our answer, but my husband said he will reach a milestone in two years which will entitle him better end of service benefits etc.
2) She asked us what research we have done to find jobs in Canada we did not have a proper answer (because we know the truth what kind of jobs we will get no matter what our qualification...of course we kept these thoughts to our self)
3) She tried to contact my ex employer on phone but could not reach him may be she must have punched wrong number (two days after interview I sent a fax to the embassy confirming the right contact details).
4). Immediately after we applied for immigration I stopped working and became a housewife because I wanted to take break and pursue my interest in Interior Decoration and did a correspondence course in ID from NY. This was not asked in the interview but we have stated this in new forms which we submitted.
Our details:
I am the principal applicant with Post Graduate Diploma, 10 yrs work experience (administration positions), IELTS score 7.5 and sister in Canada.
What are our chances??? In case we get a reject letter can we appeal and what is the success rate.
We will appreciate your feed back.
Thank you.
). She asked us when we are ready to move, we said will get our landed imm status first then after couple of years we will move for good. She did not like our answer, but my husband said he will reach a milestone in two years which will entitle him better end of service benefits etc.--.---- WRONG ANSWER
YOU ARE GIVEN ONLY SOME TIME TO RELOCATE TO CANADA (IMMIGRANT VISA EXPIRY DATE) AND GET YOUR PR CARD TO CONTINUE YOUR STATUS. IMMIGRATION WILL NOT ISSUE A 2 YR EXPIRY VISA AND WAIT FOR YOU.
2) She asked us what research we have done to find jobs in Canada we did not have a proper answer (because we know the truth what kind of jobs we will get no matter what our qualification...of course we kept these thoughts to our self)--- A TRUTHFUL ANSWER IS BETTER THAN SILENCE. YOU SHOULD ALWAYS TELL WHAT YOU THINK, NOW THEY KNOW YOU ARE NOT PREPARED AND WILL HAVE TOUGH TIME AND WILL BE A BURDEN ON TAX PAYERS IN CANADA.
3) She tried to contact my ex employer on phone but could not reach him may be she must have punched wrong number (two days after interview I sent a fax to the embassy confirming the right contact details).--- COMMUNICATION SKILLS ARE VITAL
4). Immediately after we applied for immigration I stopped working and became a housewife because I wanted to take break and pursue my interest in Interior Decoration and did a correspondence course in ID from NY. This was not asked in the interview but we have stated this in new forms which we submitted.- LONG DISTANCE PROGRAM IS NOT CONSIDERED AS AN ACTIVE EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION TO GET POINTS FOR IMMIGRATION.
Our details:
I am the principal applicant with PG Diploma, 10 yrs work experience (administration positions), IELTS score 7.5 and sister in Canada.- REQUIRE A MIN OF BACHELORS DEGREE
My husband high school with 25 years work experience (admin positions)- REQUIRE MIN BACHELORS UNIVERSITY DEGREE OR EQUIVALENT TECHNICAL/ BUSINESS EDUCATION
What are our chances??? In case we get a reject letter can we appeal and what is the success rate.-- NOT TO DISCOURAGE YOU, BUT THE FACTS YOU STATE, THE VISA OFFICER IS NOT CONVINCED THAT YOU WILL SETTLE SUCCESSFULLY. AND THAT IS THE RISK THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO TAKE.
IT IS BASICALLY A JUDJEMENT CALL BY A SENIOR CASE OFFICER.
GOOD LUCK
No offense, but is this the sort of people who generally apply to come to Canada? People who basically have little more than a high school education?
I guess it makes sense because even people with advanced degrees(for what they are worth) end up doing odd-jobs here. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but I guess people who look forward to coming here and doing odd jobs are really desperate.
I had given the interview in Abu Dhabhi too and was asked almost the same questions. But I was well prepared.
The only thing you missed out is to ask the officer straighaway - Do I get the Visa. They are very polite and will tell you the result on the spot.
Anyways you will have to wait a while before you get a reply. It takes more than 4 weeks - Around 2 Months.

-------After getting landed imm status a person can stay 3 out 5 years outside Canada to maintain his / hers PR Status. Rules have changed.
